Gbarnga, Bong County – Deputy House Speaker Prince Moye has admitted he knew the standard bearer of Unity Party Joseph Boakai couldn’t win the 2017 presidential elections because of the disenchantments expressed by Liberians during campaign activities. “When the Unity Party served 12 years and we could see that on their faces during the campaign. I knew that Joseph Boakai couldn’t win but we had to spend the money. We gave women groups LD$200,000 but it couldn’t influence anything because people said they were tired with Unity Party,” Moye said. Arthur Kollie, a resident of Gbarnga and partisan of Unity Party, described Moye as “insincere political character” whose support for Unity Party is questionable based on his silence on critical national issues.

Her Voice says in order to fight sexual and gender-based violence particularly rape, the system needs to be strengthened beginning with empowering of the Liberian National Police to speedily and properly investigate reports of rape cases, charge the alleged perpetrators and send them to Court. Her Voice also wants the rape law amended to have strict lifetime imprisonment sentence for adult perpetrators who rape children that are less than eleven years old. Although rape in general is cruel, the impact of rape on minors is so grave, and the sentence for adults who rape minors should be hasher. The Human rights organization says a well-structured, strong and strengthened system can more effectively fight rape and other sexual related offenses than a capital punishment. According to the group, Capital punishment is prohibited by several international protocols and conventions to which Liberia is a signatory, and execution of death penalties could send bad signals of the country to the international community.

Dr. Liam Fox MP Pledges Half His Senior Team Will Be Women If He Is The next Director-General of the WTOFormer UK International Trade Secretary, Dr Liam Fox says the World Trade Organization needs ‘more input for women, by women’THE UNITED KINGDOM – When most people think of trade they probably don’t immediately leap to gender as a key issue. Yet, in many parts of our world, women are excluded not just from the professions, but often the world of work itself. I, and many others, have often recited the fact a rules-based system to govern world trade has helped to lift over 1bn people out of extreme poverty over the last 30 years. In developed economies, rising protectionism will see prices rise for consumers. As to attracting more women into the architecture of trade, we need to make changes at all levels.

Weah,Your blatant, deliberate and conscious refusal to even speak with the organizers shows that you really do not care about the alarming rate of rape cases in the country. But it doesn’t only stop there, your refusal to accept the petition in person as demanded by the peaceful protesters, some of whom are babies, clearly shows that your administration has got no intent of putting into place measures to curtail this menace that has engulfed our country. I’ve heard that the protesters will come out again tomorrow, please show some respect to them and the rest of the millions of Liberians who are supporting this cause by going out there to receive the petition in person. The Editor“Say No to Rape” “Her No Is No!” These are campaign slogans that have been around for decades. Despite tireless efforts by stakeholders, rape remains one of the most frequently reported crimes in Liberia today, with cases growing at an exponential rate. It is embedded in our culture for which the need for holistic action to root it out is urgent. The world has watched thousands of protests against rape and sexual violence, yet the problem remains prevalent among us today. Despite significant efforts made by the past administration, just after two years of a new administration, rape is creeping back to become an even moe daily evil.
