GAM: “The Referendum will definitely become a side issue with very less interest. The House of Representatives, on June 23, 2020 concurred with the Liberian Senate to adopt the resolution setting the special senatorial elections and national referendum on December 8, 2020 which had previously been scheduled for October 13, 2020. By doing so, the Legislature also ignored President George Weah’s request for the both events to be held on December 8, 2020. Since then the national Elections Commission (NEC) has begun preparations for the electoral processes. As an issue-based election, the group stated that the ballots carry symbols with corresponding scripts to identify, read and vote.

According to the report which can be found at https://www.transparency.org/en/gcb/africa/africa-2019/results/lbr, overall bribery rate under the Sirleaf’s regime was at 69 percent compared to 53 percent under George Weah’s leadership. “Considering the report new after a year of its release is likely to impress upon the public a high degree of recency. Such position of FPA, we believe, could be simply justified by the slightest indication of the GCB’s date of publication-thus affording the readers the opportunity to weigh-in on the newness of the report, Miamen said. While CENTAL appreciates the use of the report in highlighting corruption and its trends in Liberia, Miamen said it was important that any further analysis is based on careful reading of methodological approaches to the study. He clarified that Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI) and the GCB are all credible reports and indicators of corruption worldwide, despite some differences in methodology and focus.

Your Honor:The leadership of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), the representative body of journalists and media institutions in Liberia extends heartfelt greetings to you and the Full Bench of the Supreme Court of Liberia and the Judiciary Branch of the Government of Liberia. Your Honor, we submit that the allegation and perception of corruption in the judiciary are rampant in the reports of local and international corruption watchdog groups. Before addressing the disturbing implications of your comments, we have had time to gather some of the reports for your information. Mr. Klah was found guilty for “gross impropriety and irregularity” for what the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia adjudged as solicitation of a bribe from a complainant. Justice Nagbe, a former senator, had previously co-chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee with defendant Sherman before being confirmed as a Supreme Court justice by the same committee.

The coup leaders previously said they would stage elections “within a reasonable time”. ECOWAS CANNOT project itself as an impartial monitor while at the same time being seen as playing a double standard to protect one of its own. ECOWAS should not sit by and allow the situation in the Ivory Coast to get out of hand. Just as they have come down hard on the coup leaders in Mali, they owe it to the stability in the subregion to do the same in the Ivory Coast. ECOWAS CANNOT project itself as an impartial monitor while at the same time being seen as playing a double standard to protect one of its own.

We will fight and defeat rape, we will fight and defeat patriarchy, and we will fight and defeat inequality! That is why as a man of conscience I have leapt to the side of our women and girls fighting against rape. Ending rape is not a stand-alone issue for women but a national struggle for decency in a society in need of redemption. It is because of the bold action of you women to come out in protest aginst rape, abuse, and social destruction. It sends the message that to fight injustice we cannot do it as a stand-alone project in our atomized silos, but by connecting struggles, building solidarity, and taking a stance.
