Murphy Dorely’s Slavia Praha Wins Czech League
Monrovia – Liberia midfielder Murphy Oscar Dorley’s Czech side Slavia Praha has won the Czech 1 Liga for the second season running with three games to spare. Slavia Praha claimed the title with a total of 74 points ahead of Viktoria Plezn in the second position with 69 points. Slavia Praha sealed the championship after their slim 1-0 victory over Viktoria Plezn Plezn on Wednesday, June 24. Monrovia – The head of Media Council for the Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) Africa Zone 3, Naomi Tappia says it is time for African basketball legends to be celebrated and promoted. The Liberian female Journalist said promoting African basketball legends and having a strong and effective communication arm of FIBA must be taken seriously if Africa is to be like other continents in terms of basketball development. Tappia was speaking following a “fruitful meeting” held for heads of media councils of various FIBA Africa zones on June 24. The meeting for media council heads which was held online because of the Coronavirus pandemic that has suspended international flights. Tappia, who is one of the two prominent female journalists in Liberia, is of the conviction that with the help of the media in promoting basketball, there will be many great stars to come from Africa.

Monrovia – Three members of the Liberian Senate Saturday defected to the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) ahead of the December Mid Term Senatorial Elections. The senators are Henry Yallah (Bong), George Tengbeh (Lofa) and Victor Watson of Grand Capemount. Accompanied by a delegation from Lofa, Senator Tengbeh expressed confidence of winning the December by-election because of his membership with the CDC. And with my membership of the CDC, it has just added value to my status in the county.”Despite his membership with CDC, Senator Tengbeh appears to be facing challenges in his re-election bid. Liberia Records Highest Number of COVID-19 Cases in a Single Day
On Saturday, June 27, 2020, the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) confirmed 45 new COVID-19 cases nationwide, 37 news cases in Monsterrado County alone. Monrovia – Liberia has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases to be reported in a single day since the deadly contagious disease was first reported in the Western African country on March 16, 2020.
