The head of the late Bartuah’s family, Cephus S. Bartuah alleged that the self-proclaimed godfather of Nimba County once brutally murdered one of their noble sons, John Weamie Bartuah, in Karnplay, Nimba County. Ganta, Nimba County – Family members of the late Benedict Z. Baruah and natives of Garplay Town in District 4, Nimba County are demanding Senator Prince Johnson to retract his statement concerning the death of their late father. The family members told journalists at a well-attended press conference in Ganta that Senator Johnson is now boosting about the manner in which their father was killed. According to the aggrieved family, Senator Johnson killed the very same people who he claimed defended or liberated the county. Recently, Senator Johnson was allegedly heard in a leaked audio bragging that anyone who fights him (Senator Johnson) in Nimba County, where he has been a Senator since 2015, will fall.

In an initial review of the expenditure side of the FY 2021 Budget, the caucus observed that a number of appropriations appear to have been inadequately budgeted for. A document prepared by the caucus observed that in the draft Budget, US$5,033,683 was appropriated for elections in the FY 19/20 Budget, which ended June 30, 2020. The caucus also raised concerns about the drastic reduction in pension for General Civil Service from US$1,918,708 in the FY 19/20 Budget to US$500,000 in the Draft FY 20/21 Budget, a reduction of US$1,418,708.

CARI’s acting officer-in-charge Mrs. Paulette Findley suspended Tokpah because of his alleged involvement in a theft case involving missing assets at CARI. But Findley reinstated Tokpah on August 3, 2020. During its peacekeeping mission in Liberia, the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), members of the Bangladeshi contingent of UNMIL, was based at CARI. Findley suspended Tokpah for time indefinite. Two weeks later, Findley reinstated him.

MONROVIA – The Organization for Women Empowerment (OWE) attention has been drawn to the heartless, inhumane attacks on childhood and womanhood by men in the constant habit of sexually abusing women and girls. Frustratingly, some women, in support of their husbands’ attitude, have aided the perpetrators by concealing the incidents from legal authorities. The Organization for Women Empowerment (OWE) has a serious concern with the ways our women and girls have been treated in Liberia and with the length of time it takes to get justice and with nothing substantive coming out of these cases sometimes. OWE is at the same time calling on the UN Women, and the UN Human Rights including other International Human Rights Organizations to accordingly press the government to ensure an end to violence against women and children. In this article, GNN Liberia also reported that three employees including two Liberians and a Kenyan had reportedly complained to the Ministry of Labour, accusing the management of Bridge International of what the employees claimed as ‘Bad Labor Practices’. Representative Youngblood, a staunch member of the ruling Coalition for democratic Change died last month in Accra, Ghana after a protracted illness month. On Friday, her body lay in state at the Capitol with President George Weah leading mourners in paying tribute to her. President Weah said eulogizing the late party faithful, Representative Munah Pelham Youngblood was one of the ‘saddest and painful tasks he has undertaken since he became President. The late Rep. Youngblood, he lamented, was not only a friend and a loyal partism but a daughter figure to him. Rep. Acarous M. Investing in the private sector: in deeds; not words
Way too many times we have deceived ourselves that government is creating the policy environment for the private sector to thrive. The lessons learned from the ebola crisis are sufficient to instruct us that we must invest in the Liberian owned domestic private sector. Of course again there is constraint of access to capital for Liberian owned private sector. I am told that “nothing ventured; nothing gained.”It is hard time that we begin to take risks and empower our Liberian driven private sector. And yes, failure is an option but we begin to invest in the Liberian private sector in deeds and not just words.
