MONROVIA – Mekki’s Pure Mineral Water, a processed and sachet drinking water is produced under filthy conditions and an unpleasant environment, FrontPageAfrica has discovered. The EPA warned that sachet water is absolutely unsafe for drinking. “Technicians from the Environmental Research and Standards Laboratory at Liberia Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have analyzed the qualities of 18 sachet water brands in the country and realized that 17 out of the 18 sachet water brands tested are unsafe for drinking,” the EPA disclosed. Sachet water is the major source of drinking water for a majority of Liberia’s urban population simply because it is readily available and cheap compared to the bottled brand. Days after the release of its bacteriological analysis, the EPA released the first batch to mineral water companies that are producing unsafe drinking water for public consumption.

MONROVIA – Criminal Court ‘C’ has granted clearance to three former officials of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) after government lawyers dropped criminal charges against them. Richard H. Walker, former Director for Banking, Joseph Dennis, former Director of Internal Audit and Dorbor Hagba, former Director of Finance, all of the CBL were given clearance by the Criminal Court ‘C’ on Friday, June 26, 2020. The submission to nolle prosequi the charges against the former CBL Officials was filed by Cllr. Garlarwolo, the State’s decision to drop charges against the former CBL officials is in line with Chapter 18, Sub Section 18.1 of the Criminal Procedure Law (CPL) of Liberia. In his ruling, Judge Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay of Criminal Court ‘C’ granted the State request.

One person is a critical condition at the John F. Kennedy Medical Hospital as a result of the injury. The Chairman of the Community, J. Wondee Daniel told FrontPageAfrica, “We are in tears and we don’t even know what to do; this particular fence that you see fell today is a newly constructed fence. The EPA people came here halted their operation a month ago only to see today the fence has fallen and killing our people,” he explained. “This community is not an industrial area, it’s straightly residential so you cannot construct such a huge fence here with houses beneath the fence. We are going to work with the Ministry of Public Works and the Disaster Management team to engage the victims,” he said.

The hospital’s communication director Samuel Kplaiwru described the move as precautionary measure to ensure the safety of patients and staff. Suakoko, Bong County – Phebe Hospital in Suakoko Bong County – the only referral hospital in central Liberia – has shut its doors to all news patients, for the second time in a month due to a spike in coronavirus virus cases in Bong County. The hospital’s communication director Samuel Kplaiwru described the move as precautionary measure to ensure the safety of patients and staff. “I am sorry that the hospital needed to do this, but at the end we will over come,” Kplaiwru said. A large number of patients were seen waiting outside, unaware of the closure of the hospital hoping to get treatment.

MONROVIA – The Independent Information Commission (IIC) and the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Williametta Saydee-Tarr have been summoned by the Civil Law Court on their refusal honor a Freedom of Information (FOI) request. The information law provides that everyone, irrespective of nationality, may request public information from the Government of Liberia, through agencies responsible or in possession of the information. The information requested by Allieu are not exempted. Howbeit, the MGSCP grossly refused to supply the requested information on two completed human trafficking cases and the trips’ schedules of Minister Tarr in her official capacity for the period 2018 to 2019. Many onlookers see the lawsuit as one of the tests to compel the Government of Liberia to comply with integrity laws, particularly the Freedom of Information law through judicial review.

The CEO of Orange Liberia is being interrogated by the Liberian security for his alleged involvement with Thursday’s violence in Monrovia. Former Central Bank of Liberia Officials Plead Not Guilty to New IndictmentDr. Milton A. Monrovia – Four former indicted officials of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) have pleaded not guilty to criminal charges levelled against them by the State. However, prior to the four defendants not guilty plea, the State had dropped charges against three other defendants associated with the alleged crimes at the CBL. In response to the State’s submission, the defendants waived their rights to jury trial and requested a bench trial. In his ruling, Judge Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay denied the State application for jury trial and granted the defendants’ bench trial.

She maintained that Liberians would be endangering their health if they continued to purchase “unaccounted” for medicines and health products being clandestinely brought into the country through land border points, and criminally sold on the Liberian market. Leave that business of selling expired or fake medicines on the streets”. The Nimba County lawmaker added that most of these street peddlers selling medicines in buckets and black bags, do not know the effect of those health products they sell. Representative Sonwarbi, however, pledged his commitment and support to help eradicate the sale of fake, expired and substandard medicines and health products on the Liberian market.

Monrovia – Former Minister of Education and Grand Kru County senatorial aspirant, George K. Werner, has made good his promise of L$500,000 to cover tuition owed by graduated teachers of LICOSES Teachers Training College, according to a statement from the institution’s chief administrator, Joseph Wehye. The teachers, recipients of B and C certificates from both public and private schools, graduated from the teaching college at a convocation ceremony held at the Barclayville City Hall, Grand Kru County in February. According to official statistics, Grand Kru is one of the counties hardest hit with these challenges. In far-flung areas like Grand Kru, there is a need for lifelong learning centers. Grand Kru has a history of producing leaders, especially nationally.

Johnson contends that it is the Supreme Court that has the power to expel lawyers and not the LNBA. “As an integrity institution, the LNBA took the decision to safeguard its integrity as Nwadubike crossed the redline,” said Cllr. After the expulsion of Nwabudike, what the LNBA leadership needs to do is to communicate with the Supreme Court about its decision, he added.
