The purported letter of Senator Tengbeh requested the Liberian Senate to “subject Senator Dillon to an investigation, give him due process in line with the Senate rules and the constitution of Liberia and apply the appropriate sanctions if found guilty of the allegation levied against him”. This article seeks to unmask the brash attempt by the Liberian Senate to use that letter as a tool to silence the loudest voice against the wholesale raiding of state resources through darkroom dealings. When a petition, signed by two thirds of the membership of the Senate, addressed to the Liberian Senate, against a Senator is presented to the Secretary of the Senate, same shall be forwarded to the Plenary for consideration. d. The Plenary shall debate the report and act upon the recommendation. e. the expulsion of a member of the Liberian Senate shall conform to Article 38 of the Constitution of the Republic of Liberia.”With the above provisions, the Senate is proceeding in egregious disregard of the laws in the cooked investigation and any outcome arising therefrom would be void ab initio.

However, according to the airlines, its Belgiam home carrier plans to start with a reduced flight offer that will be built up in a phased approach according to the market demand and to the travel restrictions. Over the past few weeks, many countries in the region have been easing restrictions with caution. Guinea Bissau has taken the bold step of easing restrictions by reopening its borders but requiring all passengers entering Guinea-Bissau to present at the borders a medical certificate indicating that the passenger has tested negative for COVID-19. However, all the residents of Guinea-Bissau’s nine regions are still confined to their regions, and not allowed to travel between regions. While the number of infections is multiplying in Senegal, the government is easing restriction on movement, fearing a looming food crisis.

That appointee was Edward Richard Dudley, a lawyer, judge, civil rights activist and the first African-American to hold the rank of Ambassador of the United States to Liberia, from 1949 to 1953. Relations between the United States and Liberia have been continuous since that time and a total of eight US ambassadors have died at their post while serving in Liberia. It is also interesting that the government-controlled media always refer to the previous ambassador, Bill Swing as having been recalled by the United States. But the state media in Liberia repeatedly say, “The recalled Ambassador Swing has been replaced by Mr. Perkins.”Williams Perkins was US Ambassador to Liberia at the time. I think that they seem to regard the Doe government as vainly trying to keep the United States on its side.

Liberia: The CPP Must Look No Further Than Itself For BetrayersTHE COLLABORATION OF POLITICAL PARTIES (CPP) issued a damning statement Sunday, expressing grave disappointment over the decision of the Liberian Senate to investigate Senator Abraham Darius Dillion for making comments critical of the Liberian Senate. IN HIS COMPLAINT, Senator Tengbeh claims that Senator Dillon and Cohorts have in recent months embarked on a “smear campaign” aimed at denigrating the Liberian Senate both wholly and individually. WHILE THE CPP makes a strong case for Senator Dillon, it must look within its own corridors for betrayers amongst its ranks. CRITICS HAVE for years chastised Liberia’s opposition parties for failing to stand up when it really matters. Members may only defy their party whip if two-thirds of their party decides to defect or rebel against the whip.
