LNBA President Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe, is calling on the Legislature to enact law to have elected officials, who interfere with court judgment and order be impeached or dismissed. The LNBA President spoke Monday, March 9, at the Temple of Justice at programs marking the opening of the March 2020 Term of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court, the highest court, is required to open twice a year, March and October to hear cases of appeal coming from the lower courts across the country. The LNBA President made reference of the case involving Ghoussainly Nelson and others in 1972.

Tunis is the Leader of Government Business representing the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) in the Sierra Leone House of Parliament. Mr. Tunis replaced Mustapha Cisse Lo of Senegal and effectively confirmed that Sierra Leone has succeeded Senegal for the position which is rotational and based on alphabetical order. Mr. Tunis’ ascendancy marks the first time that Sierra Leone is occupying the position of Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament since its establishment in 2002. He is expected to serve until 2024, when Togo will be next in line to succeed Sierra Leone. It can be recalled that President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone and the Sierra Leonean Parliamentary delegation endorsed Speaker Tunis at the Extra-Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament in Monrovia in September 2019.

Monrovia – Former Defense Minister Brownie J. Samukai has testified in open court, saying that former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf authorized the withdrawals of funds from the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) pension account. “All withdrawals made out of this account (AFL Pension Account) were done, having sought and received the authorization of the Commander-In-Chief (Former President Sirleaf) of the Armed Forces of Liberia,” he testified. Defendant Samukai also testified that he was ordered by former President Sirleaf to withdraw funds from the account to support the AFL operations. Monrovia – The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) in collaboration with its partners under the Universal Acess Fund has completed the construction of the second Base Station in Gbarnga-Gbarquita, Bokomu District, Gbarpolu County. The Base Station which includes a telecommunication tower, a modern 7.3 meters satellite receiver and a 5kw solar module will power communication services that include voice and 4G mobile broadband data services to towns within eight miles radius of Gbargba-Gborketa and adjacent towns in Bokomu District. According to a release from the LTA, the towns to be affected have a population of over close to eight thousand people have received little or no service to mobile technology. “The installation and construction of the Base Station falls under pillar two of the Pro Poor Addenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) which has to do with economic and jobs for the people”, Lynch Monbo stated. The projects are part of the ITC for Development Program by the LTA and its partners.

Liberian Pharmacists who recently graduated from the University of Benin in NigeriaNigeria – 37 Liberian Pharmacists have completed a specialized Doctor of Pharmacy training program from the University of Benin, one of the top ten universities in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The 37 Liberian Pharmacists are from various hospitals, the School of Pharmacy, University of Liberia, the Liberia Medicines & Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA), the Pharmacy Board of Liberia and the Ministry of Health. Sheikh Al Moustapha Kouyateh, senatorial hopeful of Montserrado CountyMonrovia – Sheikh Al Moustapha Kouyateh, a senatorial hopeful of Montserrado County in the pending special election, has frowned at “self-glorification” by some members of the Liberian Senate. Kouyateh is amongst few names popping up to compete for the Montserrado County seat, which is currently being occupied by Senator Abraham Darius Dillon of the Liberty Party. Evidence is the recent petition submitted to the Legislature by a group of citizens led by war and economic crimes court advocates Emmanuel Savice, Fubi Henries. “We are not begging, we are demanding [the establishment of war crimes court] because if not, there will be another war in Liberia. LNBA members in these conferences voted overwhelmingly in support of the establishment of Economic and War Crimes Court, pledging their professional service for its realization. The LNBA was mandated by Liberians to develop a draft bill for the establishment of the Economic and War Crimes Court.
