ALJA Frowns on Harassment of Liberian Journalists by State Security
Minneapolis, MN – The Association of Liberian Journalists in the Americas (ALJA) is condemning in the strongest term the increased level of attacks against Liberian journalists by state security officers. The Association also, named Liberian journalist Aryee Davis of Truth FM as one of the victims of the EPS. The organization says it perceives the continuous attack on the Liberian Media by security forces as a ploy to silence them and must be condemned by all LiberiansAt the same time, ALJA is calling on Liberian journalists to remain fearless and professional in their reporting. ALJA further cautioned the Liberian media to assist in sustaining the Liberian peace and democracy by exercising due diligence in its reporting about happenings in the country. Liberia: No Money to Fuel House of Representatives’ Staff Buses?
According to what we are hearing, gas provided for the buses was misused by people in charge,” an ordinary worker at the legislature told this newspaper. FrontPageAfrica called Representative Marvin Cole of Bong County, who Co-chairs the Rules, Order and Administration Committee to ask why the buses are parked. It was reported that Rep. Cole had allegedly reduced the quantity of coupons for some lawmakers and diverted same to his personal use. The Montserrado County’s lawmaker, widely known as a ‘no nonsense’ man, immediately, forcefully confiscated Cole’s mobile phone, in demand of his remaining coupons. According to him, someone in the leadership had attempted taking about US$13,000 intended for coupons for personal use.

Paynesville City – A non-profit humanitarian organization, Liberia Women Humanitarian Network, has concluded a two-day community training exercised on awareness and mobilization on novel coronavirus. The training exercise was intended to train volunteers, who will create awareness for community residents to take preventive measures in case coronavirus was ever discovered in Liberia. They had come from seven communities to serve as messengers in spreading the message regarding the coronavirus. The training we are conducting is based on the Ministry of Health’s approved educational materials on the coronavirus,” she added. Liberia Signs Iron Ore Transshipment MOU with Singaporean Company
As per the MOU, the company will transship some 789 million tons of iron ore from its Diecké project in Guinea, which is just 2 kilometers north of the Ganta, Nimba County, through the Yekepa-Buchanan rail line. “We are very happy to sign this MOU with the Liberian government,” Al Khaldiya Mining Private Ltd CEO Rohan Patnaik said in a press release issued on Thursday. The Transshipment of iron ore would provide a significant number of jobs, Patnaik said, adding it would create jobs in the trucking, spare parts, the Port of Buchanan and other markets in the mining supply chain of the mining sector. This would generate much-needed revenue and spur growth of the mining sector, which the World Bank estimates will grow by 7.8 percent this year due to increased gold and iron ore production. The company would conduct a comprehensive assessment of the environmental and social impacts of the iron ore transshipment on local communities and forest for the transshipment project, Patnaik said.

Educating Citizens: Preparing Liberians for Lives of Moral and Civic Responsibility
To make an analogy, I liken students’ educational journey to the planning and supply phase of a long and complex expedition. What problems do institutions face when they seriously and intentionally undertake moral and civic education for the betterment of students? To establish workable approaches to moral and civic education well suited to institutional mission, history, constituencies, and strengths, it is befitting to encourage specialization, to some extent in the relative emphasis on ways of framing moral and civic education. I am also of the view that moral and civic education would be incomplete if it does not somehow consider the three thematic approaches. I am also delighted to contribute to this endeavor for the purposes of transforming the Homeland educational system.
