Liberia’s senior women’s national team have progressed to the semi-finals of the 2020 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone A women’s football tournament after a 2-1 victory over The Gambia at the Wusum Field in Makeni, Sierra Leone on Monday. Kanties Sayee and defender Margret Stewart scored Liberia’s two goals to bag home all three points when they needed just a draw to qualify to the last four of the tournament. The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission is a recognized government institution that investigates corruption, and the police investigate trafficking. Liberia after going two goals up came under serious pressure from Gambia but Margaret proved her defensive ability ending the half 2-0. Liberia: Aggrieved Residents Protest in Demand of Electricity
The residents said their demand for electricity in the community was becoming long overdue, while few higher-ups up government next-door to them are having access to electricity. The residents placed a roadblock on the main route from Jalloh Shop Community to other places, causing several vehicles to remain in a queue for hours. The residents placed specific reference to National Port Authority Managing Director, Bill Twehway, whom they alleged is benefiting from electricity while they remain in darkness. However, Daniel Deshield, District Coordinator of Montserrado County said the citizens concern is ‘cardinal,’ because the hydro tension line of the Liberia Electricity Corporation passes through the district and residents are not benefiting from electricity. Deshield said the residents were peaceful while staging the protest and he sees no reason while police will arrest them for speaking out.

New York – Liberia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, His Excellency Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., is encouraging the United Nations to approach peacekeeping and the management of transition in ways and manner that will respond to the changing security environment and current global realities. Ambassador Kemayah observed that peacekeeping globally is becoming increasingly challenging, especially with increasing threats of terrorism, which has taken a new shape and form, as well the use of chemical weapons. In the case of Liberia, Ambassador Kemayah asserted that the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2333 was timely and appropriate and played a critical role in facilitating a smooth transition process from a peacekeeping presence to a United Nations Country Team. As a country, we also take pride; being considered a model country for successful transitions, from peacekeeping to peacebuilding, and also; from conflict to building resilience and lasting peace.” Ambassador Kemayah emphasized. Speaking earlier, former Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General (SRSG) Alan Doss said he wrote the book ‘A Peacekeeper in Africa’ to share his experiences about peacekeeping in Africa and the role of multilateralism, and proffer recommendations to enhance United Nations peacekeeping Missions, making them fit for purpose.

Over US$490K Fuel Scandal Hits Importers
An investigation has been launched by the Petroleum Distributors Union of Liberia about a petroleum scandal that involved dozens of importers and distributors throughout the country. “We are conducting the investigation to establish the number of distributors and importers of the petroleum involving the clandestine activities that, if not taken care of, could cause serious problems to the sectors,” Sheriff disclosed. “Those distributors and importers that are involved with this scandal will be dealt with drastically by the law,” Sheriff assured the retailers, most of whom have resolved to stage a peaceful protest at the compound of the Liberia Petroleum Refinery Corporation (LPRC). Sheriff also said any distributors or importers involved with this unwholesome business practice of receiving money under the pretense of supplying petroleum products in exchange, those individuals or entities would be made to account for any amount received from the retailers. “LPRC is only a custodian of the petroleum product for the importers and not responsible to sell the product, so you cannot directly hold them for the situation you find yourself with,” Sheriff added.
