— AFPTRIPOLI: Four people were killed and several wounded when armed groups clashed on Sunday in the western Libyan city of Gharyan, several sources said. A medical source at the Gharyan hospital confirmed the casualties, telling AFP that four people were dead and 10 had been wounded. Unverified videos shared on social media and picked up by local media outlets showed dozens of armed men roaming the streets of Gharyan as well as several burnt-out armoured vehicles. Libya has seen more than a decade of stop-start conflict since the NATO-backed revolt that toppled longtime dictator Moamer Kadhafi in 2011. The Tripoli-based government did not immediately respond to an AFP request for comment about the clashes.

His script combines the real-life ordeals of three migrants including Kouassi, who trekked across the Sahara from Ivory Coast around 18 years ago. And you cannot help," he told AFP before the screening. The film portrays graphic scenes of torture, and Kouassi recalls fellow inmates "killed in the prison, in the cells."

A pregnant woman on board the rescue ship Sea-Eye 4 is in critical condition, the German humanitarian NGO said in a statement on Saturday. A helicopter could reach the pregnant woman in acute danger of her life in less than an hour. The so-called Libyan Coast Guard was already on site and the Sea-Eye crew documented that there were people in the water. During the escape attempt, some people fell into the water, whereupon the Sea-Eye crew deployed rescue equipment and a lifeboat. Furthermore, people from the rubber boat are missing and it is not clear whether they were brought back by the so-called Libyan coast guard or drowned during their operation.

The annual report by Libya’s Audit Bureau revealed that cabinet ministers under interim Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh used development funds to purchase $8.5 million worth of luxury vehicles in 2022 without proper authorization. According to the Audit Bureau’s report, Dbeibeh pproved allocating 40.5 million Libyan dinars last year to acquire 27 high-end 2021 vehicles for his ministers, violating finance laws regulating state procurement procedures and vehicle use. The report accused Dbeibeh’s government of deliberately splitting the luxury vehicles contracts into smaller purchases to skirt mandatory Audit Bureau oversight on major public expenditures. Previously in 2021, auditors flagged the acquisition of 25 expensive vehicles for the prime minister’s motorcade totaling over $4 million – vehicles that were not properly registered to the government as required. The latest audit exposes the interim government’s embezzlement of public money meant for Libya’s long-delayed reconstruction and development.
