TRIPOLI : Libya's Presidential Council head Mohammed al-Menfi and Attorney General Siddiq al-Sour on Wednesday vowed investigations into the transfer of Lockerbie suspect Abu Agila Mohammad Mas'ud Kheir Al-Marimi to the United States. Mas'ud's sudden arrival in the United States after his family said he was seized from their home by gunmen last month has caused widespread anger in Libya at the Tripoli government. The head of the Presidential Council, which functions as Libya's head of state, also demanded that GNU Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah tell the truth about any coordination with the United States. Critics of Dbeibah accuse him of trading Mas'ud to the United States to curry its support in his political standoff with an eastern-based parliament that backs an alternative administration. The Libyan political analyst, Mohamed al-Jarh, confirmed that “the Dbeibehs (the family of Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh) and those supporting them had sold Libya and its resources,” indicating that “the process of selling the Libyans has now begun.”“The turn (of being sold) is to be taken by all, and the buying and selling process comes in different ways,” al-Jarh said in a statement on his official Facebook account. Al-Jarh’s post comes in the awake of extraditing Abu Agila Masud, a Libyan intelligence official, who will face federal charges in Washington over alleged involvement in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing. Last month it was reported that Masud had been kidnapped by a militia group in Libya, leading to speculation that he was going to be handed over to the American authorities to stand trial.

Forty four Libyan political parties denounced the kidnapping and extradition of the Libyan citizen Abu Agila Masud to the United States, calling on the Libyans to take collective action to denounce the crime and prosecute those responsible for it through a sit-in in front of the United Nations headquarters and the embassies of the United States at home and abroad to denounce what it described as a “heinous crime.” . The parties said in a statement that the news of kidnapping Masoud and extraditing him to the United States was shocking. The political parties indicated that they “denounced a month ago the kidnapping of Masud from his house in Tripoli by a local armed gang and taking him to an unknown destination, in preparation for what was leaked at the time of the intention of the President of the National Unity Government Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to hand Masud over to the American government, in a suspicious deal to please and court the United States and win its support.”The statement said that “the curtain was revealed and the veil was lifted about the truth of what was being planned in secret and darkness, with the announcement of American and European media about the news of the American authorities receiving the Libyan citizen and imprisoning him and subjecting him to interrogation and investigation without any details about the method of handing over, understandings or guarantees related to his rights as an accused, innocent until proven guilty according to the simplest rules and principles of human rights. The parties expressed their condemnation of the kidnapping and extradition, stressing that the Lockerbie case was paid in full by the Libyan people and was settled, and its file was permanently closed in accordance with a legal agreement between the Libyan and American governments since 2008.

Libyan national, Abu Agila Masud Al-Maryami, appeared before a federal court in Washington, DC, on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in the Lockerbie case, and he refused to speak before the American Magistrate Judge, Robin Meriweather, before meeting with his lawyer. Prosecutor Erik Kenerson told the court the government will not be seeking the death penalty because it was not a legally available penalty at the time the crimes were committed, so the maximum sentence available will be life in prison, Reuters reported. "This action underscores the Biden Administration’s unwavering commitment to enforcing the rule of law and holding accountable those who inflict harm on Americans in acts of terrorism. Through the unrelenting efforts of the Department of Justice, Department of State, and their partners, Abu Agila Mas’ud will now face justice." She added in a statement published by the White House.

AR in Retail: Try Before You BuyOne of the biggest benefits of AR in retail is that it offers consumers the opportunity to try on products without physically visiting stores. Estee Lauder also created an AR app where customers can try on cosmetics with various AR filters to reach the right combination of makeup. Going Beyond the Shopping Experience with AR in RetailAR’s greatest impact on the retail sector relies on the customer experience. Numerous firms such as Avataar, Zero10 and Nextech AR have contributed significantly to the XR ecosystem of retail solutions.

WASHINGTON -- A Libyan intelligence official accused of making the bomb that brought down Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988 in an international act of terrorism is to appear Monday in federal court in Washington to face charges. Two other Libyan intelligence officials have been charged in the U.S. for their alleged involvement in the attack, but Mas'ud would be the first defendant to appear in an American courtroom for prosecution. The New York-bound Pan Am flight exploded over Lockerbie less than an hour after takeoff from London on Dec. 21, 1988. At the time of the announcement, Mas'ud was in Libyan custody. That affidavit said Mas'ud told Libyan law enforcement that he flew to Malta to meet al-Megrahi and Fhimah.

The abduction of a former Libyan intelligence operative accused of preparing the bomb that brought down Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988 and his transfer into US custody was agreed about three months ago after conversations between US government and Libyan officials, British newspaper the Guardian reported on Tuesday. The officials said Trump administration officials had been in discussions with local authorities about bringing Masud to the US to stand trial since 2019, and that these “conversations” had continued under President Joe Biden. Until six months ago, Masud was serving a 10-year sentence for crimes committed as an intelligence operative under the regime of Muammar Gaddafi, who was ousted in 2011. After being abducted, Masud was transferred to a heavily armed paramilitary unit called the Joint Force in the port city of Misurata. The Guardian reported that only a small number of senior officials in Washington, mainly in the ministry of justice and the state department, were aware of the fate planned for Masud, though the CIA and the White House are thought to have been notified.
