IOM, FG evacuate 152 Nigerians stranded in Libya

The evacuated Nigerians whose return was facilitated under the FG-IOM Voluntary Repatriation Exercise, arrived at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday evening. The Envoy noted that this was the third exercise the Federal Government and IOM had carried out in 2023, with a successful evacuation of nearly 500 Nigerians stranded in Libya to Nigeria already. “Today, we have successfully evacuated another 152 Nigerians stranded in Libya to Nigeria. We evacuated almost 4,000 stranded Nigerians from Libya in 2022 and we hope to surpass that number this year,” Musa said.

256 stranded Nigerians rescued from Libya, Chad
The National Emergency Management Agency, on Tuesday, confirmed receiving 152 returnees from Libya and another 104 stranded citizens from N’Djamena, Chad Republic. The Libyan returnees were received at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while those from Chad were received at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano. The statement read, “The Director-General, NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, received the Assisted Voluntary Returnees at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Ikeja. “Also 73 adult males including those with medical cases, eight male children and seven infant males were among the batch. “The returnees were brought back under the care of the International Organisation for Migration from N’Djamena through a voluntary repatriation programme.

Source details top countries behind capital inflow in Egypt since 2014
CAIRO – 12 April 2023: A governmental source detailed to Al Watan newspaper Wednesday the top countries that contributed to capital inflow between 2014 and 2022. The largest share belongs to the UAE, and that is 57.22 percent, followed by Bahrain (9.41 percent), the Netherlands (nine percent), Italy (8.28 percent), and Saudi Arabia. The source also highlighted the inflow from those countries in 2022, saying that $2.2 billion came from the UAE, $368.57 million from Bahrain, $352.71 million from the Netherlands, $324.64 million from Italy, and $146.95 million from Saudi Arabia. There are also $133.16 million from Kuwait, $107.39 million from Syria, and $50 million from Libya.

Osun man arrested while trying to traffic 4 teenage girls to Libya after drugging them
A Suspected human trafficker, Muideen Adebisi, has been arrested by the police while trying to traffic four teenage girls from Ile-Ife in Osun State to Libya. After taking the food and drinks, the girls slept off and later woke up in Kano State en route to Tripoli, the capital of Libya. During interrogation, the suspect claimed that the four girls willingly accepted to go to Libya and work. “My brother who resides in Tripoli instructed me to get girls for him and send the girls to one man in Kano who will take them to Libya from Kano,” he said. The suspect also informed the police that when he got to the man’s house in Kano, he met many girls that were being processed for the journey to Libya.
