The G9 alliance of gangs has for nearly a month been preventing trucks from reaching the Varreux fuel terminal outside Port-au-Prince, leading to shortages that have forced hospitals, businesses and schools to limit operations. But he added that if Henry did not resign in that period, the gangs would take other actions, without elaborating. Many Haitian truck drivers are refusing to transport fuel due to the constant threat of kidnappings by gangs. Canada said late on Thursday that it was withdrawing non-essential personnel from its embassy, citing security problems that are being exacerbated by fuel shortages. By contrast, regulators use suptech to supervise capital markets and their participants. The relationship between regulated entities and oversight bodies will continue to become closer as more data sharing is required, and facilitated, in real time. This ecosystem will provide the necessary cross-pollination of ideas to promote innovation and development of new technologies applied to Malaysian capital markets. How capital market intermediaries can adopt regtechAs capital market intermediaries continue to increase in complexity, and their systemic profile similarly grows, they will have to adapt to new and highly data-intensive requirements. Greater use of privacy-enhancing technologies will also ensure that requirements for more data sharing are balanced against the need for individual privacy.

Thus, the rich countries’ Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) reported US$80 billion in climate finance for developing countries in 2019. Fudging numbersBut OECD climate finance numbers include non-concessional commercial loans, “rolled-over” loans and private finance. Official development assistance redesignated as climate finance should be categorised as “reallocated”, rather than “additional” funding. India has disputed the OECD claim of US$57 billion climate finance in 2013/14, suggesting a paltry US$2.2 billion instead! Oxfam estimates public climate financing at only US$19 billion to US$22.5 billion in 2017/18, with little effective coordination of public finance.

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 11): Inter-Pacific Securities Sdn Bhd said despite remaining oversold, there are still few signs of a rebound among Bursa Malaysia stocks as yet. In addition, it said market players are waiting for the 3Q2021 GDP to be released tomorrow to gauge the state of the country’s economy that could also provide some market cues. “Therefore, market players are likely to remain on the sidelined until there are further signs of market recovery before making a return. Inter-Pacific said in the broader market, conditions are also insipid that could also leave the downside bias intact for longer. “Most market players are still wary of the prevailing market uncertainties, and they are likely to reduce their stock market exposures until sentiments improves,” it said.

— Former Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler on Wednesday was sentenced to a year in federal prison after pleading guilty to accepting $5,000 from a contractor who had received city contracts. “I stand before you so ashamed, sorry and absolutely scared to death for what might happen next,” the 78-year-old Tyler told U.S. District Judge James Sweeney II before the sentence was imposed. Tyler was indicted by a federal grand jury in Indianapolis in November 2019 — a few weeks before his second and final term as Muncie mayor ended — on a count of theft of government funds. “I could have said no (to the payment) and I wouldn’t be standing before you today,” Tyler told the judge on Wednesday. The former mayor will remain free for the time being until told by federal authorities when to report to prison.
