Alibaba says working with China police on sex assault allegation
Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba said on Sunday that it was cooperating with a police investigation into sexual assault allegations aired by a company employee. A statement by Alibaba said the company also had suspended "relevant parties suspected of violating our policies and values," asserting that it had a "zero-tolerance policy against sexual misconduct." An unidentified female employee made the allegations in a lengthy internal posting quoted by Chinese media, which AFP is unable to verify. A hashtag for the allegation was among the top-viewed items on Chinese social media platform Weibo on Sunday. Sexual misconduct has garnered increasing attention in China especially since the country's own #MeToo movement was sparked by Chinese feminists in 2018.

Malaysia’s June IPI beats expectations, better outlook seen in 2H21
Manufacturing segment's m-o-m growth was supported by a 20.2% growth in E&E, and a 14.5% rise in the petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products segment. For the first six months of 2021 (1H2021), Malaysia’s IPI expanded 12.4%, represented by growth in all three segments of manufacturing (15.7%), mining (4.5%) and electricity (4%). Singer Siti Sarah succumbs to Covid-19, her baby survives
PETALING JAYA: Singer Siti Sarah Raisuddin who had been battling Covid-19 while pregnant with her fourth child, has succumbed to the disease while doctors managed to rescue the baby. Siti Sarah, 37, had died without having held her son with whom she was pregnant for eight months. News of her death was shared by her husband Shuib Sepahtu, whose real name is Shahmira Muhamad, on Instagram. The singer of hits such as Semakin was hospitalised on Aug 4 after experiencing severe coughing and a lack of oxygen levels. Siti Sarah and her husband were married in 2011.

Food bank with essentials for babies, toddlers
PERTUBUHAN Kebajikan Shafar Johor Baru (PKSJB) has set up a baby food bank specially to cater to the needs of toddlers aged five years and below. “We just started the baby food bank on July 25. “We are giving away baby milk formula and disposable baby diapers for now,’’ said Fauziah. Once there are sufficient funds to go around, PKSJB plans to have the baby food bank every Sunday. Using whatever is left to survive
PETALING JAYA: With the Covid-19 pandemic showing no signs of abating, many theme parks and tourism industry players have resorted to using their own reserves as well as cost-cutting measures to sustain their operations. Malaysian Association of Amusement Theme Park and Family Attractions (Matfa) president Tan Sri Richard Koh said their members were already using whatever reserves they currently have to sustain themselves. We look at our reserves and allocate what we have to pay for workers’ salary, rent and bank loans. To cut cost, Koh said they had no choice but to retrench workers while those who remained had to take a pay cut or unpaid leave.
