Let’s say you live in a village with a lot of wooden houses placed close together. You hear of these problems in your village WhatsApp group, and it’s kind of worrisome, but maybe it hasn’t hit your own home yet, so you don’t feel it quite so much. As long as your own home is safe, for some reason, it’s subconsciously more comforting to feel that you probably can’t do that much about it anyway. This must be what it’s like with regards to the flooding in China and Germany, or maybe the problem with mass shootings in America. Or maybe, just maybe, today it’s your friend’s dad that catches Covid-19 and dies because the Klang Valley hospitals weren’t sufficiently staffed or equipped.

TOKYO: Javad Foroughi spent his nights caring for gravely ill patients, doing everything he could to help them breathe. Foroughi also set an Olympic record with 244.8 points, finishing 6.9 ahead of Serbia’s Damir Mikec. Yang Qian had a few emotions of her own after a close call and her worst shot of the finals. But as she was shooting, Galashina had a miscue of her own, hitting an 8.9 on her final shot as the limited crowd at Asaka Shooting Range let out a gasp. “It’s unbelievable that I can be here,” Yang Qian said.

In 2015, after several years of sound research with various groups including kindergarten children, Carol Dweck wrote a seminal paper about the growth mindset. She suggested that people with a growth mindset (relative to a fixed mindset) can perform better and achieve higher outcomes in each activity. People with a fixed mindset relate failure to a self-fulfilling prophecy that they have limited abilities and talent. Approach to learningIndividuals with a growth mindset focus on what and how they can learn. Celebrating successThose with a fixed mindset often see successful people as threats and reinforce their self-limiting abilities.

Chow said that some central bank digital currency, or CBDC, projects such as Multiple CBDC Bridge have the potential to solve decades-old problems for cross-border transactions. As to the increasing public controls on crypto assets, speakers called for regulations compatible with the emerging cryptocurrency industry. They were speaking at a webinar co-hosted by The Investor, a tech media outlet run by The Korea Herald, Malaysia’s The Star and the Asia News Network entitled “The rise of Govcoins & What’s next for crypto”. Experts said that central bank digital currencies have a huge potential to solve many issues, ranging from decades-old problems involving cross-border transactions to digital transformation.

It made me reflect on when I was a secondary school girl and whether having to study from home would have helped me do better in my SPM exam. The answer is a resounding yes because I would have had:> More time to sleepMy school was quite a distance away. > More time for school workNot having to stay back in school for co-curricular activities would have helped me to do better in exams. > The luxury to decide how and when to do my school work Even with back-to-back online classes, I can still decide when I want to do my school work, according to my pace, as long as I keep to the deadlines. On an empty stomach, it is hard to focus or stay engaged during lessons.

However, citizens cannot be complacent that the mere provision of these rights will guarantee our enjoyment of them. We have to be consistently vigilant that our inherent freedom to live is not oppressed by politicians. This is supposedly our system of checks and balances so that citizens are not oppressed by the powerful government. The repealed Internal Security Act (ISA), for example, had quelled citizens’ thoughts, discussions and deliberations on many matters of national interest for decades. Fourthly, I believe many citizens are still not aware of the lawmaking role of members of Parliament and state assemblies.

THE National Recovery Council (NRC) has extended an invitation to leaders of Opposition parties, experts and representatives of various industries to participate. It is high time that DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng casts aside his combative spirit, arrogance and attempts at politicising anything and everything. Guan Eng had accused Star Media Group adviser Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai of being “a mouthpiece of MCA” and opposed the latter’s participation in the NRC. Unfortunately, on the contrary, Guan Eng continues to entangle political party positions and ideological issues. Observing the verbal spews from Guan Eng, it is apparent that he is unable to let go of his political jabbing mentality.

TOKYO (Reuters) - The reign of Japan's "King Kohei" Uchimura, two-time Olympics all-around champion and holder of seven Olympic medals, came to an abrupt end on Saturday when he failed to qualify for the apparatus final, closing his storied Olympic career. He barely squeaked onto Japan's Olympic team earlier this year in a tie-breaker after which he ruefully referred to himself as an "old fogey" compared to his teammates, some of them a decade younger. Uchimura, born into a family of competitive gymnasts, has said he intends to quit after the Olympics. After making the team, Uchimura confessed to mixed feelings. "My performance wasn't one I could really accept, and when I finished I thought I wouldn't be going to the Olympics.

As sago comes from rumbia trees, traditionally, farmers would harvest the pith (centre of the tree trunk) before it is ground down, dried, pounded and soaked. Leftover trunk residue is also turned into pig feed. A grandmother in Penampang has been keeping the traditional method alive for decades and recently taught her grandchildren about the process. “I asked them to help me find a few rumbia trees so that we could process sago and have the residue turn into pig feed,” she said. Eddie feels that these traditions must be kept alive so that future generations get to understand and experience what their elders did.
