The Met Gala is coming back. The first gala in September will be smaller, and held in accordance with government coronavirus guidelines. The second next May is intended to be larger, in line with previous galas which typically hold about 550 guests. In 2020, the gala was cancelled but fans were invited to engage in a social media challenge to recreate favorite red-carpet looks. As for Part Two, it will "further investigate the evolving language of American fashion through a series of collaborations with American film directors who will visualise the unfinished stories inherent in The Met’s period rooms”.

For a woman surnamed Wu, a mundane trip to a shopping centre resulted in her helping a man who had been tricked into forced labour ten years ago reunite with his long-lost family. The man, who shares the same surname and is named Wu Fangwen, had been tricked into forced labour by an illegal brickmaking factory when he left home a decade ago. Wu Fangwen was forced to make bricks for a decade and was treated terribly, eventually losing his memory because of ill health. The woman then contacted Wu Fangwen’s family, who cried upon hearing their long-lost family member had been discovered. The workers were trafficked from cities in Henan, beaten, locked in the factory and forced to work long hours before being reported and released in 2007.

Desperate French farmers counted the cost last Friday of several nights' of frost which threaten to decimate grape harvests in some of the country's best-known and prestigious wine-producing regions. The government is readying an emergency rescue package after the unusual freezing temperatures which could be some of the most damaging in decades for crops and vines across the country. Many industry experts say the frost damage may be the worst since the 1990s. "You can go back in history, there have been (freezing) episodes in 1991,1997,2003 but in my opinion it's beyond all of them." As well as vines, fruit trees have also been badly hit along with other crops like beet and rapeseed.

AFTER rumourmongers scared the community senseless about Covid-19 cases in Pulau Tikus market in Penang, going there became an episode of fear for me. It seems to signal that somewhere deep, deep in the caverns of their conscience, they know what they share are unsubstantiated and unverified. For Pulau Tikus market, the word was that four market traders in three stalls were hospitalised with Covid-19. Did that happen in Pulau Tikus market? For now, I am “thankful” for the benefit of good food at good prices that I was blessed with.

In the Kassim Ahmad version of Hikayat Hang Tuah (published by the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in 1964), we hear the story of how the young Hang Tuah formulated his early education curriculum himself:“Bermula Hang Tuah pun besarlah; tahu-lah ia akan hal ibu bapa-nya itu. Telah beberapa lamanya Hang Tuah mengaji Quran, maka pengajian-nya tamatlah. Maka Hang Tuah mengaji nahu pula. Maka Hang Tuah pun mengaji-lah dengan lebai (India)... Maka Hang Tuah pun berkata pada bapa-nya hendak mengaji dengan lebai Siam... maka Hang Tuah pun mengaji pula pada sa-orang lebai China... Maka Hang Tuah pun mengaji pula pada lebai Jawa... Kalkian sa-telah habis-lah rata diketahuinya dua belas bahasa itu, maka Hang Tuah pun pulang-lah ka-rumahnya bersama-sama dengan ibu bapanya menchari makan sa-hari hari.”A rough translation in brief: After learning to recite the Quran and studying Arabic, Hang Tuah asked permission from his father to study the Indian language from an Indian scholar. The third thing that I would like to draw upon was that Hang Tuah learned all the languages from a “lebai”.

The Frenchman lost to Australian Jordan Thompson 6-4 6-7(3) 7-6(5) in the opening round of the ATP Masters 1000 event on Sunday, his ninth defeat in 10 matches in 2021. What is the pleasure playing like this?" A win against Chile's Nicolas Jarry, who was ranked 1,165th at the time, in Cordoba in February is the only win Paire has managed this year. But there's no pleasure in playing," said Paire, who has earned over $8.5 million in career prize money. "The only pleasure I have is when I'm home without my mask and I don't care about the COVID."
