No fewer than four armed robbery suspects have been arrested and ammunition recovered from them in parts of Delta State. This comes barely three days after the assumption of office by CP Wale Abass as the new Commissioner of Police for Delta State. The team, during the patrol, intercepted a tricycle along Eagle roundabout by Ogunu Bridge, conveying three occupants and subjected them to a search. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Wednesday, said the duo were separately arrested at a popular hotel in Asaba and Fegge area of Onitsha in Anambra State. Edafe quoted the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Wale Abass, as commending the team for their efforts, while admonishing them not to relent as more is expected of them.

The Federal Government has threatened to publish the names of companies that are yet to comply with the expatriate quota policy of the country in due time. Expatriate quota licences are usually issued to foreign, and in some cases, Nigerian firms, to enable them to bring in high-level-skilled manpower that is not readily available in the country. Speaking at the unveiling of the 2022 revised handbook on expatriate quota administration in Abuja on Tuesday, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said the abuse and gross violations of the expatriate quota policies by foreign investors and Nigerian companies necessitated the move. “All these measures became imperative in view of abuses and gross violations of the expatriate quota policies by foreign investors and Nigerian companies alike. A couple, Omolara Alashe, 36, and her husband, Ramoni Lateef, 40, were remanded on Tuesday, 9th April, 2023, by an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly raping and abusing their 19-year-old housekeeper. The pair is being tried for alleged rape, assault, theft, and sexual assault. They live in Igbonla, Ketu, Lagos State. Earlier, Insp Donjor Perezi, the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendants committed the crimes at their home sometime in March. According to Perezi, the first defendant’s spouse had sex with their housekeeper, who was 19 years old.

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on Tuesday said that two ships had arrived at the Lagos Port Complex and were waiting to berth with petrol. The authority said that 23 other ships were expected at the port from May 9 to May 25 with general cargo, frozen fish, container, petrol, base oil, bulk wheat and bulk gypsum. Other cargoes expected are: butane gas, bulk fertiliser, pro/butane gas and soya oil. It said that 18 other ships were discharging general cargo, bulk wheat, frozen fish, petrol, container, base oil, bulk gypsum, bulk sugar and broken glass.

Some terrorists have reportedly invaded the palace of the Emir of Kagarko, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, in Southern Kaduna, kidnapping nine of his children in the town. Among those abducted by the terrorists were his grandchildren and three others. The incident, according to a resident, took place around 11.30 pm on Sunday. The resident claimed the terrorists stormed the town and headed straight to the monarch’s palace. A graduate of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) Ondo state, identified as Gbenga Moses, was found dead inside his room in the university town. The remains of the young man who graduated from the Department of Philosophy was found unconscious in his room after he failed to come out from his room. According to a source, the young man and his girlfriend were treated at Aduloju Hospital in Iwaro and discharged but the young man died later. Another source said the deceased and his girlfriend were treated for typhoid but said Gbenga was found dead inside his room after neighbours broke into his room when he was not seen the next day. The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Olusegun Akanbi, who confirmed Gbenga’s death, who confirmed the development said the young man died on Sunday morning.
