Over the years, civilised society has put in concerted efforts to protect women through laws that are gender-specific due to the burden and effects of traditional, cultural and religious beliefs which erode their basic human rights. There are also laws against sexual harassment of women in places of work, laws related to marriage, divorce which give legal basis for equality in marriage, laws on safe motherhood and laws relating to property. But while these laws are there to protect women, can they misuse the laws for selfish reasons like anger, revenge or blackmail? The misuse of feminine laws is being taken to next level that its very complex to understand and will affect innocent women who have genuine cases even when it involves cases of mental harassment and online sexual harassment. While it is not all women that misuse the feminine laws, the few engaged in this are putting a negative spin on women protection, leading to calls for gender friendly laws from advocates.

The World Bank Group President, David Malpass says global growth is expected to be weak in 2023, slowing to two per cent from 3.1 per cent in 2022. “If we look at developing countries excluding China, we expect a slowdown to about 3.1 per cent in 2023 from 4.1 per cent in 2022. “However, the likelihood is a long period of slow growth, asset reprising, and capital moving in the wrong direction. According to him, China’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth is rebounding to more than five per cent in 2023, with strong private investment. “I was there in February and think it will take capital market liberalisation for India to achieve their eight per cent growth goal.’’NAN reports that the World Bank Group/International Monetary Fund 2023 Spring Meetings opened on Monday in Washington DCand would end on April 16.

With Friday’s blockbuster clash with neighbours Wigan Warriors approaching, however, there is growing confidence that will change. With Wigan in good form themselves, optimism about a first sold-out Wire home game since the Good Friday clash with Widnes Vikings is increasing. “The last genuine sell-out we had here was Widnes in 2016, but I think we could go really close,” chief executive Karl Fitzpatrick said. “We wanted the supporters to fall back in love with the team and I think we’re seeing that,” he said. “What’s happening on the field is obviously helping that but I think the players being in the community is also a factor.

Why describing building without planning permit as illegal structure, the renowned town planner identifies high cost and delay associated with the processes among reasons home builders/developers evade planning permit. Planning Permit cuts an area whereby you have a parcel of land that is in excess of one hectare; you must obtain permit in terms of layout preparation. The government has tried as much as possible to let the public aware about the need for obtaining planning permit. So this is one of the issues I think are responsible for nonchalant attitudes toward obtaining planning permit. The United Kingdom has placed Nigeria and 53 other countries on the red list of countries that should not be actively targeted for recruitment by health and social care employers. The announcement was contained in the revised code of practice for the international recruitment of health and social care personnel in England. It is recommended that employers, recruitment organisations, agencies, collaborations, and contracting bodies check the red country list for updates before any recruitment drive. It defined active international recruitment in the code as the process by which UK health and social care employers (including local authorities), contracting bodies, recruitment organisations, agencies, collaborations, and sub-contractors target individuals to market UK employment opportunities, with the intention of recruiting to a role in the UK health or social care sector. This includes but is not limited to allied health professionals, care workers, dentists, doctors, healthcare scientists, medical staff, midwives, nursing staff, residential and domiciliary care workers, social workers, and support staff.

The Managing Director of Sub-Saharan Africa, Project Management Institute, George Asamani, has said that COVID-19 pandemic increased digital adoption by five years, theAccording to him, this should push tertiary institutions to accelerate digital adoption for increased skill shifts among students. While presenting a paper titled ‘Reimagining higher education in Nigeria’, Asamani said, “By some estimates, the pandemic accelerated digital adoption by five years. “This digitalisation at scale and velocity results in massive skill shifts. That trend is only likely to accelerate further as organisations demand digital skills far beyond the IT function and deep into other areas of the business.”He noted that higher or tertiary education was ripe for disruption. “Overnight, technology automated the traditional lecture and logically supports the argument that anything that can be automated will be disrupted.

“It is no longer news that a section of Nigerians have over the years been exploited and subjected to ridicule by illegal loan apps after signing on to these apps’ services. ”But this is about to end with the decision of the Federal Government, through the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), to put an end to the development by approving 173 loan apps. “It is good to know that apps that are not approved by the Federal Government would be taken off Play Store by Google and be unavailable for downloads. “We invite Nigerians to know that the move is in line with the demonstrable commitment of the Buhari administration to protect the average Nigerian from exploitation. “We are hopeful that the regulators will ensure proper enforcement of the necessary laws to ensure that the approved lending apps accord Nigerians seeking their service, the respect they deserve,” the group added.
