The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on Thursday said that 22 ships at the Lagos Port Complex were discharging petrol and others. The NPA in its daily Shipping Position said that the ships were discharging bulk wheat, general cargo, container, frozen fish, ethanol, automobile gasoline, base oil, butane gas, bulk urea and petrol. The authority said that 26 other ships were expected to arrive the port between March 23 to April 10. It listed the expected items as bulk wheat, general cargo, frozen fish, bulk sugar, butane gas, bulk gypsum, bulk salt, automobile gasoline, petrol and containers. It indicated that eight others had arrived the ports waiting to berth with bulk wheat, container, base oil, petrol and bulk sugar.

A woman, Tina Idoroyen, has been arrested in Calabar for dipping the hands of her five-year-old daughter in hot water for stealing a piece fish. Idoronye, a food vendor, claimed that she prepared 19 pieces of fish for her business and went out. Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has sealed up the office of fintech company Agropartnerships. SEC said the parent companies Farmforte Agro Allied Solutions Limited and Agropartnerships Technology Ltd are operating illegally and unlicensed to carry out investment related operations. “These companies do not have registration of the SEC to conduct fund management activities and have been found to promise exorbitant rates of returns to lure investors. While Agropartnerships office remains sealed, the fintech company refutes SEC’s claim that is operating illegally and unregistered with Nigerian authorities. “We remain committed to enabling progress for all in the agriculture value chain across Africa,” Agropartnerships said.

Five children have been killed by a primary school building that collapsed on Saturday at UK Bello Memorial Primary School, Paiko, in the Paiko Local Government Area of Niger State. Our correspondent gathered that the building that killed the children had been on the verge of collapse for years and efforts by the Niger State government to demolish the building were resisted by the residents. Russia used its newest Kinzhal hypersonic missiles for the first time in Ukraine on Friday to destroy a weapons storage site in the country’s west, the defence ministry said. Russia has never before admitted using the high-precision weapon in combat, and state news agency RIA Novosti said it was the first use of the Kinzhal hypersonic weapons during the conflict in pro-Western Ukraine. “The Kinzhal aviation missile system with hypersonic aeroballistic missiles destroyed a large underground warehouse containing missiles and aviation ammunition in the village of Deliatyn in the Ivano-Frankivsk region”, the Russian defence ministry said Saturday. A defence ministry spokesman declined to comment when reached by AFP. The Kinzhal missile was one of an array of new weapons Putin unveiled in his state-of-the-nation address in 2018.

At least 23 people have died after a bus crashed into a lorry in eastern Tanzania on Friday, the police said. “The death toll is now 23” after one of those injured died, said police head of operations and training Liberatus Sabas. “The truck driver, who was heading from the Dar es Salaam port to the Democratic Republic of Congo, was overtaking a motorbike when the two vehicles collided head-on,” he said. “Three injured have been transferred to Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam for further treatment,” Sabas added. In its 2018 global report on road safety, the World Health Organisation said Tanzania had reported 3,256 traffic accident deaths in 2016, but estimated there had probably been closer to 16,000.

A Supreme Court judge in Brazil ruled Friday to block popular messaging application Telegram nationwide, barring one of far-right President Jair Bolsonaro’s favorite communication channels.
