MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer): A petitioner seeking to cancel the certificate of candidacy (COC) of presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has claimed that the latter isn’t really the son of the late dictator, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Thursday (Nov 25). Tiburcio Marcos claimed in a petition that the real Marcos Jr allegedly died, and the one who currently filed his COC is an alleged impostor. In his vlog in May, Bongbong Marcos already addressed the urban legend that the “real” him is dead. The urban legend goes that Marcos Jr. was stabbed and died during a scuffle while studying abroad. Marcos’ camp was the first to insist on the validity of the drug test results, urging critics not to drag other prominent institutions into their attempt to smear Bongbong.

The Battle at Changjin Lake, a chest-thumping war epic, has become the highest-grossing film in China, raking in 5.6 billion yuan (HK$6.83 billion). The movie depicts a crucial battle in winter 1950, where Chinese soldiers forced US-led United Nations troops to evacuate from North Korea, fighting in freezing temperatures. Critics of the film's message - which depicts the battle as a total victory for Chinese forces - have also come under fire. Luo Changping, a former editor of Caijing magazine, questioned the justification for sending troops to fight in such brutal conditions. He was detained by police for "infringing on the reputation and honor of heroes and martyrs."

GENEVA, Switzerland – COVID-19 vaccines reduce transmission of the dominant Delta variant by about 40 percent, the WHO said Wednesday, warning that people were falling into a false sense of security concerning jabs. “Vaccines save lives but they do not fully prevent transmission. “Data suggests that before the arrival of the Delta variant, vaccines reduced transmission by about 60 percent. With Delta, that has dropped to about 40 percent.”The more transmissible Delta variant is now overwhelmingly dominant around the world, having all but out-competed other strains. The WHO has long stressed that the currently-available COVID-19 vaccines are primarily aimed at reducing the risk of severe illness, hospitalisation and death, rather than transmission.

JPMorgan Chase chief executive Jamie Dimon has joked that his bank would last longer than the Chinese Communist Party. While reiterating his bank's commitment to doing business in China, Dimon said: "I made a joke the other day that the Communist Party is celebrating its 100th year - so is JPMorgan. JPMorgan has been operating in China since 1921, the same year the Communist Party was founded there. In August, it won regulatory approval to become the first full foreign owner of a securities brokerage in China. Global executives typically choose their words carefully when discussing China, where foreign companies have occasionally been subject to backlash for perceived offenses.

Hong Kong's government has issued its first ever yuan-denominated green bonds setting an important new benchmark for the offshore yuan market. The 5 billion yuan (HK$6.1 billion) offshore green bonds offering comprises a 2.5 billion yuan three-year bond and a 2.5 billion yuan five-year bond. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority said the bonds saw strong demand despite recent market volatility, with the two attracting over 14.2 billion yuan in orders, a 1.84 times oversubscription. The de facto central bank said 54 percent of the green bonds were distributed to banks, 35 percent to fund managers, private banks, and insurance companies, and 11 percent to supranationals, official institutions, and corporates. Together with the US dollar and euro-denominated green bond offerings last week, it demonstrates the city's continued commitment to further develop the green bond market through piloting issuances with different parameters, Chan added.
