Filipino-Americans asking for US inclusion in Phl ‘green list’Our consulates in the United States have been getting a deluge of inquiries and appeals from Filipino-Americans on how soon they can go home to the Philippines without going through facility-based quarantine. They are appealing that if they are fully vaccinated and have a negative RT-PCR test taken 72 hours before arrival, they be allowed entry without quarantine. Approximately 90 percent of Filipino-Americans have been fully vaccinated. They are hopeful the US could be included in the list of “green” countries. Many countries like Singapore and Australia are already open to vaccinated travelers and are scrapping quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated travelers from the US.

CAIRO: An Egyptian mechatronics engineer has invented a robot that can extract potable water by condensing humidity in the air and turn it into drinking water using artificial intelligence. The engineer, from Tanta city in northern Egypt, said he was inspired by NASA's flights to Mars. The technology of generating water from moisture is not new, he said, but the technologies available now are not capable of operating in difficult conditions. On earth, it can generate up to 24 liters of water per day," El-Koumy noted. Using the same technology, plants that generate up to 50,000 liters of water per day can be built in desert areas where do not have natural water sources, according to the engineer.

Wage hikes, price controls: Socialist coalition bares ambitious platformMANILA, Philippines — Socialist coalition Laban ng Masa, which is backing presidential aspirant and labor leader Leody de Guzman and his running mate Walden Bello, presented Saturday a 13-point platform consisting of ambitious economic, political and social reforms that would mostly need congressional approval. LNM’s priorities should De Guzman and Bello get elected are narrowed down to "TKO" — trabaho (jobs), kalusugan (health) and oportunidad (opportunities). Increasing the minimum wage nationwide and ending contractualization are just some of LNM's programs that would have to go through the legislative mill before being enacted. Some of their programs, like decrminalizing abortion and supporting same-sex marriage, would also likely face stiff opposition in a country where the Catholic Church’s influence still holds sway. 'Win the people over, lawmakers will follow'Bello acknowledged that it would be difficult to enact all these reforms without the support of the majority.

It feels redundant for Caveat to add up to the brouhaha over the most undeserved Nobel Peace Prize 2021 that Maria Ressa recently snatched while the country was sleeping. I thought they have spoken the last words enough to shame the Nobel Prize committee to another gross historical blunder they have committed in the direction. Another The Manila Times columnist Yen Makabenta pointed out, among others, that Barack Obama's Nobel Prize was just one of the many controversies surrounding the prize. In his memoir released in 2015, Geir Lundestad, revealed remorse over the decision to give President Obama the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009." The Norwegian Nobel Committee, according to said columnist, is convinced that freedom of expression and freedom of information help to ensure an informed public.
