Defiant Chandimal, Mathews smack centuries in fightback

Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews (below) after completing their centuries on the third day of the final Test against India at the Kotla on Monday. If Kohli and the unsavoury controversy over air pollution hogged the limelight in the first two days, Monday belonged to Angelo Mathews (111) and Dinesh Chandimal (147 batting). Their fourth wicket stand produced 181 runs in 79.2 overs and took Sri Lanka to 356 for nine in reply to India's 536 for seven declared. While Mathews hit 14 fours and two sixes to get his first Test century in 17 Test matches, Chandimal made 147 with 18 fours and one six. But again, to say India allowed Sri Lanka to grow in stature when they should have been sent back early would not be an exaggeration.
