Libya plans to conduct general elections as scheduled

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Dec. 19 the elections commission of Libya stated that no technical problems are stopping the implementation of the nation’s general elections as intended. Emad Al-Sayeh, the head of the High National Elections Commission, informed Anadolu Agency, “Technically, we don't have any problem to conduct the polls on time.”His insights took place two days following the statements of Al-Hadi Al-Saghir, head of the parliamentary elections committee, who said that the poll was “inevitable.”Al-Sayeh stated, “The House of Representatives (parliament), not the commission, is the one who announces postponing the polls.”The presidential elections of Libya are scheduled on 25 December, backed by parliamentary polls after 52 days, according to an UN-sponsored agreement concluded by Libyan political opponents in conferences in Tunisia on Nov. 15 last year.
