An international Qur’an memorization competition for military personnel was launched at the Air Defence College in the city of Misrata, as part of its second edition under the patronage of the Ministry of Defence of the Government of National Unity. The opening ceremony was attended by the director of the defence minister’s office, a representative of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, the commander of the Central Military Region, the commander of the 63rd Infantry Brigade, as well as a number of officers from various military units and local social figures. According to the General Staff’s media office, this year’s edition of the Al-Bunyan International Qur’an Memorization Competition has been named the “Martyrs of the Nation” session in tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the country. The competition will continue until March 13, when the winners will be announced and top participants honored in a closing ceremony recognizing Qur’an memorizers among members of the participating military institutions.
