Two new cases of the version of mpox that has fueled a deadly outbreak in central Africa have been detected in Britain, according to the country’s health authorities. But the authorities say that the overall risk of a rapid spread in the country remains low. “Mpox is very infectious in households with close contact, and so it is not unexpected to see further cases within the same household,” Susan Hopkins, the agency’s chief medical adviser, said in the statement. The disease, formerly known as monkeypox, has been endemic in West and Central Africa for more than 50 years. A wider outbreak occurred in 2022, with the illness spreading to Europe, the United States and other parts of the world.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola stuck the knife into Man Utd after his side were trounced by SportingManchester City boss Pep Guardiola couldn’t resist the temptation to stick the knife into Manchester United after his side were humbled by Ruben Amorim’s Sporting on Tuesday night. The Citizens were thrashed 4-1 in the Champions League by the Portuguese giants in Amorim’s final home game in charge of the Lisbon outfit before he takes the helm at Old Trafford. Guardiola will face Amorim for the first time in a Premier League encounter when the Red Devils visit the Etihad Stadium in mid-December. But the Spaniard was quick to remind United that he won’t come face-to-face with Amorim in the Champions League again this season as the 39-year-old’s new club failed to qualify for the competition. And the Red Devils are in desperate need of the immediate boost that Amorim’s arrival could bring after falling to 13th in the Premier League table.

The New York Times’ Needle lives: The newspaper’s popular election-prediction gauge made its return on Tuesday night — despite the ongoing strike called Monday by the union representing tech employees at the paper. The NY Times’ Needle, first introduced in 2016, estimates the final outcome of an election based on partial election results. In an article on its website, the Times said the Needle could have been a no-show given the strike. “Publishing the Needle live on election night relies on computer systems maintained by engineers across the company, including some who are currently on strike,” the paper said. There is a team of journalists reviewing the data that comes in and goes out of the model at all times on election night,” the paper says.

Badenoch is the first Black leader, and first Black female leader, of any British political party. But Badenoch gives the impression that she isn’t looking for other Black people, or even Nigerians, to feel any kinship towards her. For many, this might've been the first time they had heard the extraordinary 'God Bless the USA'... and such saccharine, unadulterated red, white and blue patriotism at this early hour probably caused them to choke on their cornflakes. The song is by Nashville star Lee Greenwood and is actually one of the best known songs in the States, having been a Republican anthem for decades. First released in 1984, it was used by Ronald Reagan in 1984 and George W Bush in 1988. Trump, 78, shared a video to his Truth Social platform earlier this year, describing the Bible as his "favourite book." No, I hate this song because it doesn't make any sense."

“If we are to set the LGPS on the right path to reform, we must be bold and ambitious. While change is always challenging, the sector widely recognises that reform is overdue, so we must tackle the issues head-on,” he said. DisconnectHis comments were followed by Paul Myles, head of LGPS at Schroders, who presented key highlights of the latest Room151 LGPS Investment Survey produced by Room151 in collaboration with Schroders. This, he noted, necessitates a “change of mindset” among LGPS practitioners, as “volatility is now the enemy”. The panel then discussed the role of real estate in providing local investment opportunities for LGPS investors, with affordable housing in the UK cited as one example.
