With more snow than other parts of Britain, the Highlands is the ideal place to head to get into the Christmas spirit. You might be tempted by the famous Edinburgh Christmas Market or Glasgow's reputation for a Christmas night out. It ranked the top 10 places to enjoy Christmas with the Highland 'capital' scoring an impressive 9.86 out of 10. Key to its success was the fact that Inverness experiences almost a month of snow (27.09 days) every year, greatly increasing your chances of experiencing a White Christmas. There are other Christmas markets in Inverness over the coming weeks including another at Eden Court on November 15.

A local veteran has been running five miles every day carrying the Royal British Legion flag to raise funds for the charity ahead of Remembrance Day. “I think of the army like a relay race,” says Stephen, who served in the Infantry with the Yorkshire Regiment. Doing a challenge like this is something I have always wanted to do.”If running five miles every day wasn’t a challenge enough, Stephen holds the RBL flag on a pole for the entire run. The flag displays a lone solider, a poppy, a spitfire and a Royal Navy ship,” says Stephen, who prepared for the challenge by running five miles every other day before working up to running the distance daily. “I haven’t been running a lot since I left the army where you have to do a certain amount of fitness.

I’ve travelled to all 50 states, mostly on Greyhound buses, the cheapest way to get around the country — and the most interesting. I booked a hostel in Santa Monica, decided that San Francisco didn’t look that far away on the map and bought a £23 Greyhound ticket. AdvertisementThe Greyhound bus station in Jackson, Tennessee ALAMYThat bus ride to San Francisco was the start of a Greyhound love affair for me. “That was nearly a YouTube moment,” Chris Martin said after falling through an open trap door and getting caught by a crew member. Or maybe it was just distraction by a record-breaking crowd that led Chris Martin to take a tumble through a trap door at Coldplay’s Sunday concert in Melbourne. In footage captured by concertgoers and posted on social media , the 47-year-old musician points to several fan posters and flags before stepping backward into an open trap door. From below the Marvel Stadium stage, a crew member extends his arms to cushion Martin’s fall. Peering down through the stage door, Martin thanked the crew members who came to his rescue, joking, “You get a bonus, you get a bonus.”A representative for Martin did not reply immediately Tuesday to The Times’ request for comment.
