The traditional dirty weekend destination finally has a worthy hotel
At 2.54am on October 12, 1984, a 105lb gelignite bomb — hidden behind a bath panel three weeks earlier — exploded in room 629 of Brighton’s Grand Hotel. A £16.2 million revampHappily, the historic hotel’s most recent refurbishment — to the tune of £16.2 million — comes with no such grim backstory. All of which is most welcome since, as my friend Naomi and I pondered over postprandial negronis in the hotel’s lobby bar last weekend, for such a beloved seaside resort — and the traditional dirty weekend destination — Brighton has a peculiar dearth of great hotels. There is sailing and there are sound baths; nightclubs, crochet clubs and running clubs; theatre, tarot, tantra and endless triathlons. In spite of its name and size, though, little about the hotel is grand, nor pretentious or pompous.

Any strikes on Venezuelan territory would be a significant escalation. After several of the boat strikes, the administration made the point that the operations had taken place in international waters. to carry out lethal operations in Venezuela and conduct a range of operations in the Caribbean. The agency would be able to take covert action against Mr. Maduro or his government either unilaterally or in conjunction with a larger military operation. But the development comes as the U.S. military is planning its own possible escalation, drawing up options for President Trump to consider, including strikes inside Venezuela.

Dismal duo of closures is a discouraging sign of the times
What will happen to the post office building in Queensgate when the service moves out? Unfortunately there will be no imminent refurbishment of the Queensgate building itself. Even at that early stage, the decision by post office bosses had no doubt been signed, sealed and was merely awaiting delivery. But it failed back then in Greig Street, has had similar results with other sub-post office closures, and for Queensgate it never got off the ground. But what's to become of that massive scruffy building when the hustle and hustle of the post office disappears?

T&P and TBWA\MCR secure Gold for The Times and Prost8 in Ocean Outdoor’s annual Digital Creative Competition
T&P and TBWA\MCR are the big winners in Ocean Outdoor’s annual Digital Creative Competition which seeks bold original ideas in Digital Out of Home (DOOH). Both agencies lifted Gold for concepts created for The Times newspaper and the charity Prost8. The six winners competing in two award categories were announced at an industry event hosted by Ocean at One Marylebone in London today (16th October). In the non-profit category, Gold goes to TBWA\MCR for Dodge the Finger, a humorous interactive arcade game from Prost8 which shows men how a simple blood test can detect the illness.
