The Entry Exit System (EES) involves people from third-party countries such as the UK having their fingerprints registered and photograph taken to enter the Schengen area, which consists of 29 European countries, mainly in the EU. For most UK travellers the EES process will be done at foreign airports. UK travellers boarding international services from London’s St Pancras railway station, the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel’s Folkestone terminal will complete EES checks in the UK. The EU is rolling out EES in a phased manner, with participating states initially only required to use the system for a proportion of their arrivals. The system will eventually replace the need for border officers to stamp passports.

The renowned Lord Crewe Arms in the medieval village of Blanchland, Northumberland, has garnered renewed praise, making its way into second place in the Times' list of the 25 best spots for an autumn break. Nestled on the County Durham border in the sleepy village of Blanchland, the Lord Crewe Arms, much like the historic village it sits in, is often celebrated for preserving its qualities from the past. Set in the midst of the North Pennine Moors, the cosy and 'atmospheric' former monastic guesthouse - which features annexed former miners' cottages - dates back to the 12th century. 'Up high the wind may be scouring the flat moorland tops of the North Pennines' but down in the Lord Crewe Arms, 'you’ll be snug and warm' said the Times. Paths lead up from the village through woods to the moors — don’t get lost."

Marc Benioff has become the latest Silicon Valley tech leader to signal his approval of President Trump, saying that the president is doing a great job and ought to deploy the National Guard to deal with crime in San Francisco. “We don’t have enough cops, so if they [National Guard] can be cops, I’m all for it,” he told the New York Times from aboard his private plane. AdvertisementThe National Guard is generally not allowed to perform domestic law enforcement duties when federalized by the president. Benioff’s call to send National Guard troops to San Francisco drew sharp rebukes from several of the region’s elected Democratic leaders. Gavin Newsom, who vociferously opposed the deployment of National Guard troops in Los Angeles, did not issue a comment in response to Benioff.
