At a time when the British royal family has been convulsed by drama, infighting and a tendency by some royals to over-share, Prince William has remained largely aloof — loath to reveal the kinds of details found in “Spare,” the memoir by his estranged brother, Prince Harry. Yet William, too, has lifted the veil in recent weeks, in his own carefully managed way. The two glimpses of William, 43, have hardly remade the public image of the eldest son of King Charles III. The exercise in image making has taken on more urgency since his father was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in early 2024. While Buckingham Palace insists that Charles, 76, is on the mend, the prospect of William having to step up to the throne no longer seems so distant.

The study, which surveyed 12,000 people about their happiest staycation memories, also found that more than 40 per cent of bookings through the site in the past year included dogs. The North West Highlands topped the list with a dog-friendly super score of 14.36 out of 15, followed by Cumbria with 14.09 and Northumberland with 13.92. Cumbria was praised for its varied walking trails, from gentle lakeside paths to challenging mountain hikes, all set within the Lake District National Park. Northumberland, which placed third, was highlighted for its dog-friendly beaches and national park, as well as welcoming eateries and historic sites like Bamburgh Castle and Cragside, which allow dogs in certain areas. Latter phases will see the facility expand and create an “offshore wind industry ecosystem” around the hub. Fayaz Khan, 26, made the threat to kill the politician between October 12 and 15 last year in a video on the social media platform that Mr Farage said was “pretty chilling”. In a post on X following the verdict, Mr Farage said: “The illegal migrant who threatened to kill me has just been found guilty. I’m going to pop, pop, pop.”Mr Ratliff told jurors that while Khan said “pop, pop, pop” he made “gun gestures with his hand”, as well as headbutting the camera during the video, and was pointing to an AK-47 tattoo on his face to “emphasise he wasn’t joking”. The court was also shown other videos posted on social media by Khan in which he appeared to make “pop, pop, pop” noises and similar hand gestures to those in the TikTok video referencing Mr Farage. In his closing speech, prosecutor Mr Ratliff said the alleged threat to kill was “not some off-the-cuff comment” and the video was “sinister and menacing”.

Ratcliffe insists he is “neutral on party politics”. Beyond Farage, there’s nothing else really there.”AdvertisementTraditionally, Labour would have seen itself as the natural home of working-class football supporters. “Football fans generally now have a respectability that they certainly didn’t have 30 or 40 years ago. This more widespread politicisation of football fans feels new and unusual. He has tapped into the violent fringe of English football fans for his support.
