Rose — Major League Baseball’s all-time hit leader and most notorious gambler — learned these lessons well. And we must acknowledge the uncomfortable reality that we — the sports media, the fans, the culture — helped make the tragedy of Pete Rose possible. In reality, Rose was horribly addicted in ways he’d never truly acknowledge. Many people knew it — journalists, Major League Baseball officials, the Reds’ management, his friends, even ordinary fans — and in the end they all just watched him fall. The next Pete Rose is out there right now, and we are almost certainly cheering for him, just as we once cheered for Charlie Hustle.

The Supreme Court declined on Monday to hear an appeal from R. Kelly, who is currently serving a prison sentence for federal sex crime convictions. Kelly told the Supreme Court that he was wrongly retroactively prosecuted under a federal law that passed in 2003 and made the statute of limitations indefinite for sex crimes with minors. ‘Pharma Bro’ appeal also rejectedIn another case involving a prominent criminal defendant, the Supreme Court declined an appeal Monday from “Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli, who was fighting a $64 million court-imposed penalty for inflating the price of life-saving medications. The Supreme Court denied both appeals on Monday without explaining its reasoning and there were no noted dissents.

Deloitte receives about $3 billion annually from federal agencies including the Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Defense. However, Gallagher said The Post could identify him later if he experienced reprisals from Trump, Vance or their allies. Vance offered several opinions, notably about Trump, that contradicted the public stances he would adopt as a politician. Soon afterward, Trump Jr. shared the Breitbart article on X, writing, “Why is an executive @DeloitteUS conspiring with the Washington Post to help Kamala Harris?”In a follow-up post, Trump Jr. shared screenshots of a website displaying the total value of Deloitte’s current U.S. government contracts and of Gallagher’s bio page, including his photo, from the firm’s website. He said the messages didn’t capture his more nuanced view of Trump at the time but made no reference to Gallagher, Deloitte or the pressure being applied to them.

According to an Oct. 2, 2024 article from CNN1, these facilities supply some 80-90 percent of the world’s supply of high-quality quartz used in manufacturing semiconductors. Since that time, experts across numerous industries that rely on semiconductors, including machine vision, have raised questions as to whether this situation will lead to a serious supply chain issue. To be honest, I didn't notice the impact that much, compared to the COVID supply chain snarl. However, we remain confident of our ability to avoid any supply disruption for our High Purity Quartz customers. We operate a long supply chain and like many organizations, we added more focus on our resilience planning post-Covid.
