Samsung recalling 1 million stoves so pets and people don’t set homes on fire
Samsung is recalling knobs on some of its electric stoves, warning that fires can be set off if pets — or even humans — bump into them. Several videos have shown pets accidentally igniting fires from jumping onto stoves and pawing at the knobs. CPSC is looking into fires caused by stoves due to pets jumping on them or humans accidentally bumping into them. Samsung advised customers to keep children and pets away from knobs and double check knobs are turned off when they’re done cooking. Samsung said its existing stoves with WiFi capabilities can text owners when the burner is first activated.

This means that Walz *knew* that if required he may very well be called up for combat duty at a time when he was entirely within his rights to retire. On top of this Walz had *already* began his efforts to continue in service politically in at *least* January of 2005 (docquery.fec.gov/… ), and probably much earlier. Elements of the battalion provided force protection and security for Air Force bases in Turkey, Italy, Belgium and the United Kingdom. --------—[ Some notes;- I was unable to find my original reference for Walz 2001 reenlistment, so I used CNN, which is not a great primary source. The original said Walz was ready to retire in 2001, but I can’t verify that.

Stocks close lower as Wall Street struggles to stage a comeback
New York CNN —US stocks wavered Wednesday, giving back earlier gains as investors tried to recover from the week’s bruising losses. The Dow fell 234 points, or 0.6%, after gaining more than 400 points earlier in the day. Mortgage rates plunge to 6.47%, cheapest since May 2023
Mortgage rates plummeted this week after weaker-than-expected employment data raised the odds of the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates next month. It’s a big step in the right direction for America’s notoriously unaffordable housing market. The standard 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.47% this week, mortgage financing giant Freddie Mac said Thursday. Mortgage rates have steadily fallen over the past several weeks since reaching a 2024 peak of 7.22% in early May. Finally, Tim Walz puts teachers in their place — the national spotlight
Teachers are the unsung heroes of democracy and Walz, who taught social studies for nine years at Mankato West High School, is a walking, gone-viral-talking reminder of that. Anyone who has stood in front of a classroom of high school students at pretty much any hour of the school day knows there is no tougher constituency, or audience, in the world. As Walz has already proved, a good teacher can do it mid-sentence, without blinking, before returning to a lecture on westward expansion. Tennessee: New Requirements for Cybersecurity Class ActionsOn May 21, 2024, Tennessee amended its cybersecurity “safe harbor” protection by limiting class-action liability for private entities. Earlier in May, the West Virginia legislature presented what could have been the West Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act. We will continue to watch for further developments concerning“ safe harbor” protections in West Virginia, Florida, and other states.
