Trump Broke Law When Deploying LA Guard, Marines: Judge
A federal judge has put a temporary halt to President Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard and U.S. Marines to Los Angeles against the wishes of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, finding the president violated a bedrock American law known as the Posse Comitatus Act. At its height, there were over 4,000 National Guard and 700 Marines deployed to LA, prompting Newsom to sue the administration. Newsom alleged the Trump administration violated the Posse Comitatus Act, a 1789 law that forbids the military from engaging in civilian law enforcement. Usually, National Guard troops are only deployed at the behest of state or city officials.

Maduro Vows To Declare A 'Republic In Arms' If U.S. Forces Attack Venezuela

Maduro also used his news conference to insist that he was the legitimate winner of last year’s presidential election. But ample and credible evidence has shown the contrary, prompting several countries, including the U.S., to not recognize Maduro as Venezuela’s president. He called Secretary of State Marco Rubio a “warlord” pushing for action in the Caribbean to topple Venezuela’s government. Since the July 2024 presidential election, Venezuela’s political opposition has been urging the U.S. and other countries to pressure Maduro into leaving office.
