Vietnam wins gold at Asian Age Group Aquatics Championships
- Phung Chi Kien won Vietnam's only gold medal at the 11th Asian Age Group Aquatics Championships ' diving event recently held in the Philippines.Kien topped the ranking in the boys 13-14 years old platform event with 265.55 points.His teammate Pham Thai Thien Bao came second, followed by Megat Syakir Hashim Megat of Malaysia.The last medal of the team went to Bui Hong Giang who took the bronze in the girls 16-18 years old platform.The Asian championship included swimming, diving, synchronised swimming, and water polo. State budget collection reaches 24.3% of 2024 projection in two months
(Photo: VNA)Hanoi (VNA) – The total State budget revenue in the first two months of 2024 reached over 361.67 trillion VND (nearly 14.67 billion USD), equivalent to 24.3% of the projection for the whole year, and 112.9% compared to the figure recorded in the same period last year, the General Department of Taxation reported on March 1. The agency said 53 out of the country's 63 provinces and centrally-run cities have seen an increase in budget revenue compared to the January – February period in 2023. By the end of February, the tax authorities issued 3,017 decisions on value-added tax refunds with a total amount of 21.68 trillion VND, equivalent to 12.7% of the value-added tax refund projection for 2024. According to the general department, as many as 84 foreign suppliers have been issued taxpayer-identification numbers through the electronic portal so far. Cumulatively for the last two months, the total tax value paid by foreign suppliers hit 2.03 trillion VND.

Mixed tax regime not yet applied on beer and alcohol products
HÀ NỘI — The Government has decided not to apply the mixed tax regime on beer and alcohol products. This was stated in the newly-promulgated Resolution No 25/NQ-CP on the building of the amended Law on Special Consumption Tax. The concern revolved around whether to include an absolute tax calculation method and a mixed tax calculation method or not. Specifically, the absolute tax calculation method is favoured for its simplicity and ease of implementation. As for the mixed tax regime, the special consumption tax on premium beer products will increase from 65 to 75 per cent.

Ministry of Finance rejects proposal to raise VAT threshold
HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has rejected a proposal to increase revenue thresholds for value-adde (VAT) tax for individuals and household business to VNĐ300 million (US$12,500) a year, citing concerns that a higher tax threshold would deter household business from converting to enterprises. During recent discussions on amending the Law on Value Added Tax, representatives from Quảng Ngãi Province have suggested to raise the threshold to VNĐ300 million, while other agencies proposed lower levels, with the Ministry of Transport proposing VNĐ250 million. The Vietnam Tax Consultants' Association (VTCA) have suggested a threshold of between VNĐ180 million and VNĐ240 million. There are 5.5 million household businesses in the country that account for 30 per cent of its GDP, according to the General Statistics Office. Việt Nam has extended the 2-per-cent VAT reduction policy till the end of June this year given prolonged economic difficulty.
