Since the Camp David accords, Egypt has been among the U.S.’s most reliable security partners in the Middle East and North Africa. While reforms to U.S. security cooperation could be part of the answer to this erosion, there are a few small, low-cost steps which could help create a better climate for joint security cooperation. First, the U.S. should consider drafting a bilateral security cooperation agreement with the Egyptians. Egyptian security enhances American security and advances U.S. interests in a region where American interests have taken a beating. We can improve Egypt’s security at minimal expense.

NAIROBI, June 28 (Xinhua) -- African ministers on Thursday launched the Regional Maritime Transport Policy for Eastern, Southern and Northern Africa to boost maritime security. Salim Mvurya, Kenya's cabinet secretary for the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, told a forum in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, that the policy provides procedures to address emerging maritime security threats such as illicit drugs, piracy and armed robbery at sea by enhancing surveillance. "The policy will help to foster a secure and safe maritime environment through regional collaboration and sustainable practices," Mvurya said during the third meeting of ministers responsible for shipping and maritime affairs of countries in eastern, southern and northern Africa. Frank Museba Tayali, Zambia's minister of transport and logistics and chair of the Assembly of Ministers of the Maritime Organization for Eastern, Southern and Northern Africa, said that the policy proposes the establishment of a regional maritime security information-sharing platform to improve interagency collaboration. Tayali also called for the formation of a task force to oversee maritime safety and security during pandemics, with a focus on vulnerable coastal regions, shared waterways and exclusive economic zones for blue economy exploitation.

WW2 prison camp will not be demolished for housing2 days ago By Thomas Barrett , Local Democracy Reporting Service ShareLDRS The frames of the 1940s huts at the camp remainPlans to demolish the remains of a World War Two prison camp to build housing have been turned down. The former "Camp 53" near Wetherby housed Italian prisoners of war captured during the Allies' campaign in North Africa in 1941. The derelict camp at Kirk Deighton has been owned by the same family since the 1970s. However, councillors refused the proposal and said that housing would damage the "historic social narrative" of the camp. A previous scheme for five houses on the site was turned down in 2017 and dismissed at appeal.

In the Declaration, Germany also praised Morocco’s active and constructive role and contribution to peace and stability in the region. Germany also indicated that it was closely following the initiatives launched by King Mohammed VI for the African continent, including the Royal initiative meant to enable Atlantic Ocean access for Sahel States. Likewise, Bourita and Baerbock agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in the cultural and academic fields and to strengthen ties between the two countries’ peoples. The Multidimensional Strategic Dialogue is held once every two years, alternately in Morocco and Germany, and is chaired by the Foreign Ministers of both countries. It serves as a basis for moving forward in bilateral relations and strengthening coherence between the different areas of bilateral cooperation.

Nearly 750,000 people are on the brink of starvation in war-torn Sudan, where the conflict between rival army factions aggravates the humanitarian situation, the global authority on famine said. The unreliability of data due to the crumbling health system and the ongoing clashes prevent aid workers from reaching hard-hit areas. UN and international NGOs have previously urged action to prevent famine in Sudan since December. Some 2 million people have crossed the border to flee the ongoing civil war between the paramilitary RSF and the army, UNHCR said. The UN said it has received only 17% of the 2.7 billion dollars needed to address the humanitarian situation in the country.
