DMP transfers three additional commissioners

An office order of DMP signed by its Commissioner Habibur Rahman has been issued today. DMP Additional Commissioner Harun-or-Rashid has been transferred from the detective branch to the crime and operations department. He will be replaced by Md Ashrafuzzaman, additional commissioner (logistics, finance and procurement). Additional Commissioner Dr Khandker Mohid Uddin has been transferred to logistics, finance and procurement department from crime and operations department.

Wymore home damaged beyond repair in morning fire
Wymore Fire and Rescue, along with firefighters from three other agencies, responded to a fire Wednesday morning that killed two cats and severely damaged a home. Wymore firefighter Rylee Meints said the call came in at 6:05 a.m. for the fire at 214 N. Eighth St., and the firefighters needed about two hours to knock down the blaze completely. The last Wymore units left the scene shortly before 11:30. Homeowner Angie Woodyard was at a friend's house when the fire occurred. Woodyard said the house, which county records show was built in 1915, is a total loss.

Govt okays proposal for signing deal with UAE company to import urea fertilizerDHAKA, July 31, 2024 (BSS) - The government today approved a proposal in principle for signing an agreement for importing urea fertilizer from Fertiglobe Distribution Ltd, UAE under G to G basis. The approval came from the 14th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) this year held today at the Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Minister AbulHassan Mahmood Ali in the chair. Cabinet Division sources said that the fertilizer would be imported from the UAE's company under a proposed agreement in the current fiscal year. The CCEA meeting approved another proposal in principle from the Ministry of Shipping for withdrawing the Khanpur Inland Container Terminal Construction Project from the list of PPP. Besides, the meeting approved a proposal in principle from the Power Division.

Microsoft cloud unit miss dulls bright earnings

Cloud unit revenue of $36.8 billion, however, disappointed investors and shares slid more than three percent to $408 in after-market trades. Money brought in from cloud computing has driven blockbuster earnings quarter after quarter, and a hint that stellar growth may be slowing was enough to give investors pause. The AI frenzy has helped Microsoft's cloud computing business grow in the double digits, which analysts said could be hard to sustain. Revenue from Microsoft's AI-infused "Intelligent Cloud" unit was $28.5 billion, a 19-percent increase from the same quarter a year earlier, according to the earnings figures.

Govt to procure 1 lakh MTs fertilizer
DHAKA, July 31, 2024 (BSS) - The government today approved separate proposals for procuring some 1 lakh metric tons of fertilizer, 10,000 metric tons of phosphoric acid and around 73,000 SPC poles to meet the growing demand. Cabinet Division sources said that following a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would procure some 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer from MA'ADEN, Saudi Arabia with around Taka 259.60 crore where per ton fertilizer would cost $550. Besides, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries would procure some 10,000 metric tons of phosphoric acid from Guangxi Pengyue Eco-Technology Co Ltd. China with around Taka 66.69 crore with per ton of phosphoric acid costing $570. Following a proposal from the Power Division, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) would procure some 24,300 SPC poles from Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Ltd with around Taka 76.68 crore under the project for BREB's power distribution system modernization and capacity enhancement (Khulna Division). Besides, the day's CCGP meeting approved two projects each from the Power Division and the ICT Division.
