He says no website was completely hacked and there was no incident of stealing data from any government websiteHackers have carried out more than 50,000 cyberattacks in several rounds in the past 10 days to take control of important government websites during the quota reform protests, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak has said. They used Domain Name System or DNS and diverted users to other pages containing messages from the hackers claiming to hack the website, according to him. Asked if the cyberattacks increased because of the protests, the state minister said: “Cyberattacks are carried out all the time as the hackers try to hack websites of organisations under national security. “But it’s true that cyberattacks have increased during the protests.”He also claimed there was no government instruction to slow the internet down after the resumption of services following a total blackout during the protests. PATNA, India, July 30, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - An Indian passenger train derailed and several of its cars overturned on Tuesday, killing at least two people and injuring 20 others. The accident happened at around the same time a goods train coming from the opposite side derailed, possibly colliding with the passenger train when it passed by. "There was another derailment of a goods train nearby, but it was unclear if the two accidents occurred concurrently," Charan said. An average of 20,000 people died each year between 2017 and 2021 in rail accidents, according to official records. Last year, nearly 300 people were killed when a passenger train and a stationary goods train collided, with the derailed compartments then striking another fast-moving passenger service.

BELGRADE, July 30, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - Thousands rallied in towns across Serbia on Monday against the approval of a controversial lithium mine that had been shuttered for two years following mass protests. Serbia has vast lithium deposits near the western city of Loznica, where a mining project being developed by the Anglo-Australian mining giant Rio Tinto has been a perennial political fault line in the Balkan country in recent years. Chanting "Rio Tinto go away", hundreds of protesters marched through the streets of Arandjelovac, Sabac, Kraljevo and Ljig. But it has proved unpopular with Serbians worried about pollution, public health and the environmental impact of the project. The lithium deposits near Loznica were discovered in 2004, but weeks of protests forced the government to halt the project in 2022.

Currently, only a small fraction of people with Parkinson’s disease receive genetic testingA higher-than-expected prevalence of gene mutations in Parkinson’s disease patients suggests genetic testing should be offered to them more broadly, researchers said on Monday in the medical journal Brain. Genetic profiling performed in more than 8,000 patients of varying races and ethnicities, all with Parkinson's disease, showed 13 percent had a genetic form of the progressive brain disorder, the researchers found. That rate was 18percent in patients with known risk factors, such as an earlier age at onset, Parkinson’s disease in a first-degree relative, or certain ancestry such as Ashkenazi Jewish, Spanish Basque or North African Berber. Among patients with no known risk factors, more than 9 percent had a predisposing genetic mutation. In the meantime, Beck said, anyone with Parkinson’s disease can enroll in the PDGENE study and receive free genetic testing, here: https://www.parkinson.org/advancing-research/our-research/pdgeneration.
