The project, which is headed by former University of Liberia Student Union President, Joe Wilson is dubbed: Bomi Diaspora Special Taskforce on COVID-19. It was through the instrumentality of Mr. Wilson and his committee that funds were mobilized from diaspora Bomi citizens for the implementation of the project back in the county. The Association President, Murphy Gibson, said he was delighted that the National Bomi Citizens Association in the Americas COVID-19 Taskforce would implement such a timely job. Several hard-to-reach towns and villages with public health facility in Bomi County benefited from the rice donation as the consignment of food supplies were transported on motorbikes to the beneficiaries. Others are Suehn Town, Mobah Town, Mecca, Sass Town, Beajolo, Fefeh Town, Zordee and Bonjeh among others.

Monrovia – As part of efforts to support the fight against the novel Coronavirus, the Library for Africa – a non-governmental organization – is providing hot meals to disadvantaged youths and elders in some parts of Montserrado County. Library for Africa has begun the distribution of hot meals to less fortunate in Montserrado County as part of efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19. “Due to the pandemic, our organization’s plan to build the library has been temporarily put on hold,” the statement from the Library for Africa reads. The organization has now begun the distribution of cooked food to some disadvantaged youths and elders every weekday at different communities in Montserrado County. During the food distribution, Library for Africa also carried out sanitization messages about the prevention of COVID-19 to residents.

Monrovia – A group of Chinese companies in Liberia has donated a consignment of assorted and non-assorted items as way of identifying with the government and people of Liberia in the fight against the deadly COVID-19 in the country. Making the presentation in Monrovia recently, Sun Yongbo, President of China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Liberia, expressed thanks and gratitude to the Government of Liberia over the level of progress being achieved in the COVID-19 fight. Sun also indicated that the group’s main objective is to work in Liberia through the expansion of economic and trade cooperation between Chinese enterprises and the Government of Liberia as well as the business community. Now, Sun said, the group is working to strengthen communication and cooperation between Chinese in Liberia to exchange experiences and share resources through websites, lectures, and seminars to provide advisory services for members’ entities. He named areas, including construction, mining, fisheries and agriculture which Chinese owned companies have made financial investment, thereby creating employment for scores of Liberians.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning can only pay four months of the 21months salary arrears owed the workers. Minister Wilson claimed that thousands of persons were clandestinely included on the program by the two suspended Coordinators, Edwin Kanneh and George Young respectively. Minister Wilson disclosed that preliminary findings have revealed that there were duplication of names and identifications numbers of some of those placed on the payroll. Minister Wilson disclosed that about 2,982 names were added on the payroll by the suspended coordinators.

GBARNGA, Bong – As Bong County records it second COVID-19 death, a member of Motivate A Girl, Linda Mulbah, has called on residents of the county to provide material and financial support to the county’s health team. Mulbah stated that citizens’ support to the county health team is vital to curtailing the further spread of the coronavirus in Bong. Bong’s health officer, Adolphus Yeiah, says the local county health team needs beddings, furniture, food items, and disinfectants and other materials to operate an isolation center for COVID-19 cases in the county. Please take this and use it for the purpose intended as we join the fight to get rid of this virus,” Mulbah said. Unfortunately, this is becoming false unarguably, at different levels in most parts of the world. The real and ultimate power to protect oneself is the one resident within. Sir Robert Peel, the father of modern policing, must be turning around in his grave with the ongoing stark contradiction of his modern policing principles and total disregard for its core value in many places around the world. The workbook is designed to keep students learning while they are out of school. Students will be asked to complete the lessons and turn in the workbooks when school reopens. Dr. Orr noted the foundation believes where and how students learn is just as important as what they learn. As part of its work with Matilda Newport Jr. High, ETM has already made improvements to the school’s infrastructure by renovating the library and creating space for a computer lab. In addition, the foundation has also planned to expand their model for improving teaching and learning conditions to school districts across the country.

The same trend has been observed for child marriage, with a decline from 58 per cent of women aged 25 to 49 years compared to 40 per cent of women aged 20 to 24 years. This will inevitably result in an increase in unintended pregnancies, child marriage, school dropouts and sometimes, maternal mortality. In East and Southern Africa, there are reports of increases in the incidents of sexual and gender-based violence including child marriage and FGM. Among the most vulnerable are adolescent girls aged 10 to 19 years with their limited negotiation skills within the family.
