KUALA LUMPUR (June 11): The Inland Revenue Board today denied at the High Court here that there was any malice on its part in filing a bankruptcy notice against former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for owing RM1.69 billion in taxes to the government. People had been questioning since July 2020 (about the IRB recovering this sum), and we were seen doing nothing with the judgement. Norhisham and Shafee were submitting before High Court Justice Datuk Ahmad Bache. “The IRB would not be prejudiced if this court allows a stay as the situation would remain status quo, pending the appeal," Shafee added. “They (the IRB) have also not shown where they derived the said figure of RM7 billion.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) -An Indian court dismissed pleas on Friday by Amazon.com Inc and Walmart's Flipkart to quash an antitrust investigation into the business practices of the U.S. firms, dealing them a blow in their key growth market. A court had put the investigation on hold last year after Amazon and Flipkart challenged it saying the CCI had no evidence the e-commerce giants were harming competition. Dinesh Kumar of the high court in the southern state of Karnataka said he was dismissing the petitions by Amazon and Flipkart, and refused them any further relief. As the competition watchdog sought to restart the probe, it told the Karnataka court in March https://www.reuters.com/article/us-amazon-com-india-idUSKBN2BB1UF the Reuters report corroborated evidence it had received against Amazon. PETALING JAYA: Motivational speaker Prof Datuk Dr Muhaya Mohamad has apologised for her video in which she advised women to act a "little dense" to find love. Dr Muhaya added that those who wished to get a deeper explanation on the issue could view the video on her YouTube channel at Prof Muhaya TV. In the video which went viral, Dr Muhaya had suggested that single, unmarried women looking for love ought to “act a little dumb” as men like women who are "damsels in distress".

SEOUL (June 11): A 36-year-old South Korean start-up founder will challenge President Moon Jae-In for the top job next March, hoping to win over voters increasingly disillusioned with traditional rough-and-tumble politics. Lee Jun-seok became the youngest leader of any major political party in democratic South Korean history when he was elected to lead the conservative main opposition People Power Party on Friday. "Our biggest task is to win the presidential election," Lee said in an acceptance speech. Lee promised an end to the divisive, acrimonious politics that South Koreans have known for decades. Moon congratulated Lee and told him his victory was a sign of change, the president's press secretary said.

In April, Morgon drove a couple of hours from his home in Lausanne, Switzerland, to a pharmacy in Lyon, France, for an Astra shot. A small trial in Germany suggested that mixing Astra and Pfizer shots could trigger antibody responses almost four times higher than a two-dose course of the Pfizer vaccine. Researchers are also looking at mixing Astra’s shot with the Sputnik V vaccine among trial participants in Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus and the United Arab Emirates. That didn’t stop Bill Enright, the Maryland-based CEO of Vaccitech, the British firm that designed the technology behind AstraZeneca’s shot. Because the Astra shot isn’t yet approved in the U.S., Enright got Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine, which uses similar technology but is intended for a one-dose regimen.

In a recent interview, one interviewee asked me, “So, what do you think is the role of trust in national development?”Indeed, a heavy question. All I had discussed was observed patterns of trust, not the actual role of trust. Anyway, if you have watched the Jurassic Park or Jurassic World movies, you can imagine what happens. Coming back to my interviewee’s question, what is the role of trust in national development? After all, despite what happened in Jurassic Park, the Jurassic World theme park was still built.

“We printed the words on plain paper and then cut the words out along the sides of the wordings on red paper. It was a process of much discovery and gave me a better understanding of the traditional art, ” added the self-taught artist. In 2009, Chinese paper-cutting joined Unesco’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. As a red paper-cutting artist, Teo feels strongly about ensuring that the art form continues to transform and progress so that it can be preserved. “We may always see that the traditional art of red paper-cutting is from China, but my wish is that we will come across more and more artwork with unique Malaysian features, ” he concluded.

(June 10): I had my first AZ jab in IDCC, Shah Alam yesterday (June 9) at 2.28pm. My personal experience yesterday was no different but that is not what I want to repeat here, except to concur by saying it is indeed world-class planning and execution. It has scarred our homeland and taken the shine from “the beautiful Malaysians” that we once knew — that we once were. (Photo by Sam Fong/The Edge)But then yesterday, I had the wondrous opportunity to experience and see “the beautiful Malaysians” again in full and true manifestation. May God bless Malaysia and the beautiful Malaysians beyond our current battle with this pandemic.

Marcel Remy is the grand old man of Swiss Alpinists, and with his sure and steady progress as he conquers a climbing wall, few would realise he is 98-years-old. In 2017, at the age of 94, he conquered the Miroir de l'Argentine, a Swiss climbing classic with its 500m of limestone wall. Remy worked on the Swiss railways and spent all his free time in the mountains, taking his two sons with him. Even if he encounters a difficult section of the wall, he finds a way to go up because he's motivated. Depression is a medical condition that negatively affects how a person thinks, feels, behaves and handles daily activities. “It is important to realise that depression is not just about feeling sad, ” said consultant psychiatrist and psychotherapist Dr Hazli Zakaria. Prof Ng: Don’t wait until the situation gets worse as it will take longer to get better. “(Usually) they don’t want other people to know they are suffering from depression as (they feel) it carries certain negative perceptions. The recipient of the EduCoop National Outstanding Educator (Psychology) Award said there were several factors that contributed to a person having depression.

THE issue of bank loan moratorium has resurfaced following the implementation of the full lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19. Calls are currently mounting for the bank loan moratorium to be automatically extended to all borrowers and not just the B40 group, as announced by the government under the Pemerkasa Plus stimulus package. At that time, Bank Negara’s automatic loan moratorium had just expired (September 2020). My point is that being denied an automatic loan moratorium is not the end of the world. In my opinion, the question of being denied an automatic loan moratorium is not an issue, so please don’t turn it into one.

Wary of undergoing surgery, Bautista resumed her life as usual, but by 2020, her condition had deteriorated significantly. Extensive testing revealed that in addition to Bautista's blood type being the already relatively rare B+ – a group found in only about 9% of people – it also lacked the JK3 protein. This meant that she could only receive blood from donors who both matched her blood type and lacked that specific protein. “As soon as we discovered that Daina's blood lacked the JK3 protein – something that is exceptionally rare worldwide – we began our search for donors within the UAE and abroad. "For her life-saving surgery to take place, we would need at least six units of blood – a difficult feat given the rarity of this specific phenotype coupled with her uncommon blood type,” explains clinical pathologist and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s blood bank director Dr Manuel Algora.
