This case was prominent, but such conditions are all too common for Malaysia’s two million documented migrant workers. In any case, it’s high time we improve housing for migrant workers, not just for disease control but because it’s the right and humane thing to do. Singapore has also struggled to control Covid-19 in workers’ dormitories, with half the country’s migrant workers infected. Without action, our treatment of migrant workers will keep coming back to haunt us. Human Writes columnist Mangai Balasegaram writes mostly on health but also delves into anything on being human.

Although we may have all been born to run, running is not for everyone. Slow and steadyMy recommendation is that if you are new to running, start off with walking, then progress to bouts of walk/running, and gradually increase your running intervals until you can run continuously without pain. Forces going through the legs while running can be up to 12 times your body weight. Running with incorrect form or with too much weight can easily result in running injuries. If you have had a running injury in the past, you are at greater risk of running injuries.

For instance, anchovies from Peru have largely stopped being imported into Europe because with the higher freight costs they’re not competitive relative to what’s available locally, Espin said. Freight costs are more painful for companies that move clunky, low-value items like toys and furniture. "Someone is bleeding very hard.”Companies are desperately trying to work around the higher costs. However, the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) is cautious about the idea. In Malaysia, the Covid-19 outbreak, which started in January 2020, has had a huge impact on our tourism industry, notes Motac. For the live events industry, it is reported that this sector contributes around RM400mil in revenue yearly for Malaysia. With the surge in cases since April and the implementation of MCO3.0, efforts to revive the tourism industry have been hampered. “Due to that, all arts and cultural activities like live events will not be allowed until the government relaxes the MCO.

Just because I do French and History does not mean that I’m going to become a historian who’s good at French. We need a reform of our education system so that more Malaysians can experience the freedom of following their heart. And if we don’t do something now, students will continue to force themselves to study something they may not even enjoy. Arts and Humanities are extremely important because these fields allow us to continuously challenge and improve the world we live in.
