OSLO: At the end of his working day, the chief executive of the world’s biggest wealth fund can often be found on his sofa, eating a pizza and responding to students on LinkedIn. Nicolai Tangen, the 54-year-old hedge-fund star who now manages a US$1.3 trillion (RM5.35 trillion) portfolio for Norges Bank Investment Management, is trying to define what it takes to invest well today. That means employers like Norway’s wealth fund need to cast a wider net when they search for talent. Tangen then turned to his portfolio managers. His contract as CEO had to be adjusted more than once to make sure the wealth fund wasn’t exposed to any conflicts of interest stemming from his past life.

Are those severe hot spells, deluges and storms just “normal”, or part of a worrying trend caused by climate change? In the last three decades, there has been a 35% increase in extreme rainfall in KL. One Cordex study indicated the region’s future climate would change significantly if the world fails to mitigate climate change (and currently we are failing to do that). Also, climate change may cause El Niño events to be twice as frequent. And every year, climate change is also forcing over 20 million people from their homes, Oxfam says.

BEIJING: Remnants of China’s biggest rocket have landed in the Indian Ocean, with most of its components destroyed upon re-entry into the atmosphere, ending days of speculation over where the debris would hit. The coordinates given by Chinese state media, citing the China Manned Space Engineering Office, put the point of impact in the ocean yesterday, west of the Maldives archipelago. The Long March-5B Y2 rocket, carrying the Tianhe module, the first and core module for the construction of China’s space station, blasted off from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site on the coast of the southern island province of Hainan on April 29. The US Space command confirmed the re-entry of the rocket over the Arabian Peninsula, but said it was unknown if the debris impacted land or water. The Long March was the second deployment of the 5B variant since its maiden flight in May 2020.

Knowing that they had to take the game to Arsenal and avoid defeat to have any chance of staying up, West Brom created plenty of chances but managed to get only one of them on target. "One of our major problems is finding the right opportunities when we get to the final third to create and score more goals," Allardyce told BT Sport. The 66-year-old, who took over at West Brom in December after Slaven Bilic was sacked with the club in 19th place in the standings, dismissed suggestions that he might have needed more time. The creating of chances has been there but the converting has not," he said. Allardyce refused to be drawn on whether he would remain at the club to try to bring them back up from the Championship next season.
