Hytch, an app that connects car owners and passengers going in the similar directions, has been launched. According to the founder and Chief Executive Officer, Laolu Onifade, the app was built to create a travel network of car owners that could earn extra income by offering riding services to passengers moving towards their routes. He said, “In the world today where everyone needs an extra means of income, we built Hytch to help car owners earn more and for passengers who are the riders to spend less to commute. “The concept of ride-sharing isn’t new to Africa as it exists with everyday people who get into danfos and other public transportation services to move around in which they are literally sharing the ride with others. He added that the app would verify all its users before they could be used and had a panic button that would send their locations to their friends and families in emergency cases.

This information has become necessary given a viral web link –https://bit.ly/NCC-Sim-Unbar-Gov-Ng – being circulated on social media and some websites. “For the avoidance of doubt, the NCC wishes to state categorically that it never issued such a statement, directing subscribers or indicating that subscribers can unbar their SIM without a NIN. As such, the originators and peddlers of the spurious message were out to mischievously mislead unsuspecting members of the public. “The Commission will not, under any circumstance, act contrary to the Federal Government’s directive to MNOs to bar SIMs cards not linked to NINs at the expiration of the last deadline given for the NIN-SIM linkage exercise…. Secondly, for subscribers with registered NINs, what to do is to simply go and link the NIN with their SIMs through channels provided by their service providers.”

Instead Sinn Féin, a party that campaigns for a united Ireland, seems likely to win a historic victory, becoming the largest party in Stormont. The latest Northern Irish opinion poll puts Sinn Féin on 26% of the vote, seven points ahead of the Democratic Unionist party on 19%. Looking at elections through Northern Ireland’s 101-year history shows just how significant a Sinn Féin win would be. Despite this, a Sinn Féin win will be hugely symbolic in showing how the ground has shifted. Proportional representation in Northern Ireland puts seat percentages closer to vote percentages than in the UK general election.

Nigeria’s response to the onset of murder ous mass violence has evolved through phases of co-optation, brutal reprisal, appeasement, and state incapacity. Through phases of anti-terrorism, counter-terrorism and, now, interminable and metastasizing counter-insurgencies, the country has found itself mired in chronic mass violence as the only language of political dialogue. The spike in armed robbery in Nigeria coincided with the mismanagement by the Yakubu Gowon regime of demobilisation in the aftermath of the Nigerian Civil War. Law enforcement, hitherto used to deniable means of committing such atrocities, had become fully converted to the methods of outlawry. This appears to have led the rest of the country to the conclusion that insurgency was the only path to dialogue.

The extant MTEF 2022-2024 is benchmarked on $62 per barrel of crude oil. This is founded on the increased price of crude oil arising from the Russia-Ukraine War. This is not even about some petty criminals stealing crude oil in jerry cans and pots. The Buhari regime’s favourite story of previous administrations selling crude oil for over $100 has suddenly gone out of fashion considering the current price of crude oil. Yet, the same administration presides over the inflation of consumption figures for oil subsidy claims.

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has lambasted Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State for his hypocrisy and promotion of religious intolerance in the state which allegedly contributed to the 24-year jail term handed down to atheist, Mubarak Bala. Ganduje was in 2018 caught on video stuffing his outfit with wads of dollars presumed to be kickbacks, a development which attracted criticisms from several pro-transparency groups. Soyinka said he was shocked by Ganduje’s statement wherein he promised to sign the death warrant of musician, Yahaya Shariff, who was convicted for blasphemy in 2020. This was the same governor that was stuffing his outfit with dollars. No doubt, the Court of Appeal will uphold his fundamental rights of freedom of conscience and freedom of expression,” Falana said.

In his address, Bakare said his ambition is based on a first-hand understanding of the challenges faced by the average Nigerian. What I do have is a vision of a new Nigeria that was birthed in me from childhood and an honest aspiration to serve as the 16th president of my beloved nation, Nigeria. MEANWHILE, prominent Yoruba socio-political groups, Afenifere and Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum, yesterday, differed over the declaration of Bakare to contest for the 2023 presidential election. “The same man will talk restructuring, talk intermediate government and has now declared to run for President of Nigeria. He even said God has told him he would be Nigeria’s 16th President after Buhari.

The National Assembly had in February 2022 said the new start-up airline would not see light of the day until Arik Air offsets outstanding debt of N10.8 billion. The Joint House Committees on Aviation had in 2021 ordered NCAA not to release AOC to NG Eagle till grey issues of staff welfare are resolved at Arik Air. The airline was granted passenger, cargo, scheduled and charter flight operations, and the AOC was to expire on September 20, 2023. A source in the new airline said the last lap of approval was actually stalled for “political reasons” rather than technical doubts. As an alternative, the Federal Government, through AMCON, decided on a new carrier, NG Eagle, from some viable assets of Arik Air.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) acted irresponsibly by leaving behind a Joint Venture (JV) cash call debt of 5.1billon dollars that has now been almost fully defrayed by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led-All Progressives Congress (APC) administration. “It is also noteworthy that the 5billion dollars cash call debt is not part of the 63billion dollars public debt the PDP left behind, with little or nothing to show for it. BMO added that the funds that the Buhari government committed to defraying the JV cash call debt could have been used for other purposes if PDP had acted like a responsible ruling party. “So much has been said about the Buhari administration taking loans, with little attention to what those loans are being used for. The group also challenged PDP to explain to Nigerians why it failed to consistently make cash call payments to the country’s JV partners “during its 16 years of misrule”.
