In this interview by ISAAC SHOBAYO, the Director-General, Research and Documentation, Government House and Secretary, SLTP, Professor Johnn Wade, speaks on the fear being expressed by MACBAN over the SLTP. MACBAN has rejected a bill for the establishment of the SLTP on the grounds that they were not carried along. In January this year, the group wrote another letter signed by one Muhammad Nuru Abdullahi, Chairman, MACBAN, Plateau State chapter and Mr Salisu Isa Muhammad, Legal Adviser, MACBAN, Plateau State chapter. The correlations with happenings in Benue State is grossly misleading and the SLTP Bill in Plateau State has been prepared to suit our peculiarities as a first principle of adopting ranching as best practice. The group also claimed that a portion of the bill which provides for the establishment of the state ranching administration and marshal corps, if implemented, will further promote crisis.

The national tournament is an open event for U-18 players, who are only required to register to attend the competition and get set to play against others in their age category when the games commence. Achusiogu said the competition, billed to hold inside the tennis section of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, is slated for other regions of the country later in the year. We want to inculcate the habit of entering into a tournament and not anyone just strolling into it. “There’s hospitality for the players, we are housing them and there is the issue of logistics too, which would be ready before the tournament starts.

The House of Representatives has called for a nationwide sensitisation against female genital mutilation by the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and the National Orientation Agency. The resolutions followed the unanimous adoption of a motion moved by Ganiyu Johnson, titled ‘Need to Eradicate the Practice of Female Genital Mutilation in Nigeria.’Moving the motion, Johnson recalled that in 2003, the United Nations, while observing the need to eradicate the practice of female genital mutilation, declared February 6 as the International Day for the Eradication of Female Genital Mutilation. The lawmaker noted that the move was to create a global awareness of the dangers of female genital mutilation and drum support for the protection of the physical and mental health of women and girls. He explained that female genital mutilation comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for non-medical reasons, which has been regarded internationally as a violation of the rights and health of women and girls. The lawmaker stated that female genital mutilation is an act of violence against women and girls and amounts to a violation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, 2015.
