A former commissioner of police, Emmanuel Ojukwu, says Nigerian government officials have compromised the prosecution of terrorists in the country. Featuring on Channels Television evening programme, Politics Today, on Thursday, Mr Ojukwu said the government’s lethargic disposition towards putting terrorism financiers on trial, demonstrates how some top public officials “compromised” the efforts aimed at bringing the felons to justice. He tagged the unnamed public officials benefitting from the security crises plaguing Nigeria as “disaster merchants who have compromised” the prosecution of suspected Boko Haram sponsors. “We don’t need to hear the names; get them (terrorism financiers) arrested, prosecute them and put them behind bars. Why are you hiding their names?” Mr Ojukwu queried.

An oil production vessel has exploded off the Nigerian coast, months after an oil spillage wreaked havoc in the Niger Delta. The vessel – the Trinity Spirit – blew up on Wednesday, Shebah Exploration & Production Co. (SEPCOL), which has the vessel on a lease, said in a statement. The ship is able to store about 2 million barrels of oil and can process up to 22,000 barrels a day. A wellhead belonging to Aiteo Eastern Exploration and Production Company blew up on November 5 in Nembe, Bayelsa State. SEPCOL said it has notified authorities of the explosion and that is already being investigated.

The House of Representatives is considering stricter punishment for workers in the banking sector confirmed to have committed fraud, raising the jail term from 10 to 20 years in addition to forfeiture of assets. Fast-rising Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has left Kenya to return to his country after apologising to Kenyans concerning a video he posted. In a video on Sunday, Portable, who is currently in Kenya, was jeering at a lady who walked out on him after he informed her that he wasn’t available for ‘hook up’. Checks by our correspondent revealed that the singer had deleted the ‘hook up’ video he shared earlier. In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Portable appreciated Kenyans for hosting him. The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has secretly awarded a multi-billion-naira assets recovery contract to a company and its lawyers. Mr Malami issued the award letter to M.E Sherriff &Co with an instruction to recover the assets and return them to the federal government within six months. “You can go to their office (ARMU) and find out if I submitted a brief,” Mr Ikputu said before ending the phone conversation abruptly. If they were assets that we identified, then we have to put it through that process of contract bidding,” the ARMU boss explained. Mrs Mohammed also noted that the confidential clause in the award letter was a mere formality and does not connote secrecy.
