2023: Religious leaders must stop false election prophecies -Kaigama

Stop the abuse of solid minerals fund
A report on the frequent raiding of the Solid Minerals Development Fund reflects a serial pattern of corruption and misuse of special funds by successive Nigerian governments. Between 2013 and 2014, N159.6 billion was contributed to the fund, with outstanding balance at N350 billion. With Nigeria tottering under the burden of local and foreign debts, a vibrant mining sector is invaluable to unyoke the nation from the need for ruinous loans and joblessness. The full potential of the Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Development Initiative could be helpful in achieving this. In the past, the Petroleum Trust Development Fund and the Ecological Fund were similarly serially raided with impunity with no consequences for the culprits.

OSGoF, NAMA to produce maps for air travel
The Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGoF) and Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) have concluded an arrangement aimed at producing various charts that will enhance the safety and security of air travel in the country. Adebomehin stressed the need for the surveyors and the technical staff of the agency to work together to produce charts and maps that would guarantee the safety and security of aircraft as well as their passengers. The SGoF expressed concerns over the huge financial demands on the government by various sectors, saying henceforth, the production of maps will provide geospatial services to the citizens. Also, NAMA Deputy General Manager, Asifat Badmus, said the apex surveying and mapping institution would always be required to supply the basic ones to positioning air traffic for better services. According to him, there is a need to update topographical maps and charts, as well as data from them to function and help NAMA to produce charts that would meet the International Civil Aviation (ICAO) standards.

2023: Educationist, Professor Imumolen, joins presidential race
An educationist, Professor Christopher Imumolen, has declared interest to contest the presidency in the 2023 general election. Professor Imumolen who owns three universities in Africa, South America and North America made his intention to contest for presidency during the week in Abuja. While declaring his intention, Professor Imumolen said Nigeria deserves and truly wants a new form of leader. Hinting on how he will revamp the economy, Professor Imumolen said the investment policies in the country need to be rejigged in order to attract investors. On security, he said he would fight the root cause of insurgency and uprising across the country in order to achieve relative peace.

Private sector stakeholders to launch N62.1bn HIV fund
The HIV Trust Fund of Nigeria has said the stage is set for the launch of the private sector-led N62.1bn ($150m) HIV Trust Fund. It said HIV Trust Fund of Nigeria would improve efforts to ensure coverage of high-impact HIV interventions that would provide the requisite treatment for HIV-positive mothers, while contributing to closing the funding gap for HIV in Nigeria which was put at about $108m per annum. The Trust Fund’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Jekwu Ozoemene, described the HTFN as critical to helping Nigeria achieve the UNAIDS 95-95-95 strategy of ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030, among other objectives. According to the statement, the fund is currently chaired by the Group Managing Director of Access Bank Plc, Dr Herbert Wigwe. Other Board of Trustees members include the Managing Director of TotalEnergies Exploration and Production Nigeria, Mr Mike Sangster; the President, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; and the MD, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, Mr Osagie Okunbor.

Fingerprint-based attendance management system will reduce incidence of ghost workers, says FUTA don
To tackle the growing incidence of ghost workers and encourage physical presence at important meetings and workplaces, governments, organisations and schools are advised to deploy a fingerprint-based Attendance Management System. Professor Adetunmbi said such a system should replace the current physical verification model in use for attendance purposes in most places in the country. “The challenge posed by ghost workers and absenteeism has made the need to involve a fingerprint-based attendance approach for the verification of attendees at meetings and in offices critical,” Adetunmbi stated. He praised the excellent delivery of the lecture which revealed that language can become a recipe for universal problem-solving domains.
