The National Film and Video Censors Board has commenced engagement with practitioners and stakeholders in the movie and entertainment industry to enforce the law banning smoking in movies. Executive Director, NFVCB, Adedayo Thomas, made this known on Saturday while presenting a communique at the end of the entertainment industry stakeholders’ roundtable in Lagos. He said, “stakeholders observed that smoking in movies and the entertainment sector is a pathway to young people embracing smoking. “Entertainment stakeholders are deliberately targeted by the tobacco industry either through financial inducement, misinformation, and other subtle approaches to further the glamorisation of smoking in the movies and entertainment sector. He said this will open opportunities for movies and entertainment sector operators to play crucial roles in awareness creation and sensitisation in relation to smoking in movies.

Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) and a judge of Lagos State High Court, Justice Adewale Abiru, have called for reform of the social order in the country as well as return of the moral values which abhors corruption and sharp practices. The jurist stressed that it was hypocritical to see public office holders hammering on integrity, transparency, declaring that moral values had been corrupted and, therefore, nothing would change no matter the number of reforms done in the public sector. Our public service is inefficient with massive capacity collapse which is being populated by unqualified and incompetent people,” Abiru said. Corroborating the view of the judge, Mr. Falana said unless there is a revolution on how to bring back the society where the people and the society are responsible and responsive, the nation cannot progress. The society has turned against our people and that promotes criminality,” Mr. Falana said.

China branded US democracy a “weapon of mass destruction” on Saturday, following the US-organised Summit for Democracy which aimed to shore up like-minded allies in the face of autocratic regimes. “‘Democracy’ has long become a ‘weapon of mass destruction’ used by the US to interfere in other countries,” a foreign ministry spokesperson said in an online statement, which also accused the US of having “instigated ‘colour revolutions'” overseas. Ahead of the summit, China ramped up a propaganda blitz criticising US democracy as corrupt and a failure. Taiwan, a democratic self-ruling island that is claimed by China, was invited to the US summit in a clear snub to its larger neighbour. In response, the US State Department called on “all countries that value democratic institutions” to “expand engagement” with the island.

Liverpool ensured there was no happy return to Anfield for Steven Gerrard as Mohamed Salah’s second-half penalty earned a 1-0 win over Aston Villa. Robertson was the major threat for Klopp’s men as he exploited the space he was afforded down the left. Tyrone Mings was roped into a clumsy challenge on Salah and at the third time of asking, Liverpool got their spot-kick. Martinez has earned a reputation as a penalty specialist, but Salah’s strike was too precise for the Villa stopper despite guessing the right way. Going behind suddenly sparked Villa into life as Gerrard introduced Danny Ings and Emiliano Buendia to offer more of an attacking threat.

No, that's not true: Many suspicious fundraising posts on Facebook contain uncanny similarities -- similar stories, similar photos and similar bank accounts. One example is a post published to the Facebook group korra obidi fan page on December 8, 2021. Two show a man in a hospital bed; three show car accidents that do not appear to be the same vehicles or same accident scene. A different post, from June 29, 2021, was asking for donations for "Temitope David" who purportedly was in an accident on June 26, 2021. I am writing this in tears, i request only 1 seconds of your precious time to pray for my Son (Jerry [Stephen or David]) Also help him financially please.
