Because it packs humour and raises issues about the giddy mathematics of managing our national economy. We have reached the bend in the road of our national development where we all need to stand on our heads to understand government policies and be one with the decision-makers. If you have problems with the miracle of education that produces uneducated young people, stand on your head. If you do not know why a large percentage of our fellow citizens do not have potable water, stand on your head. If you wonder why the more money we spend on fixing our roads the worse the roads become, stand on your head.

Once again, the media space has been dominated by the unending controversy on the issue of fuel subsidy. Top government officials have always been lamenting that fuel subsidy is a major waste and a drain on the economy without addressing the root cause of the matter. While making a case for the abolition of subsidy, Sanusi did not say anything on what led to the continuous importation of fuel and what brought about fuel subsidy. Now, how did we get here and what are the implications of the proposed removal of fuel subsidy? When this happens, fuel subsidy will fizzle out and the current brouhaha as well as hullabaloo on subsidy will die down.

Four days into his tenure, Osun State workers embarked on a general strike, paralyzing the city of Osogbo and subjecting the new Secretary to the State Government, SSG, to serious harassment. We need to evaluate the tenure of Akande in Osun to understand the power and impact of the governors. He learnt politics and principle of loyalty from our beloved Uncle Bola Ige. It was from all these savings that Akande gifted Osun State with the sprawling Secretariat and the magnificent Bola Ige House which is the Governor’s Office. Akande changed Osun State for the better and since then, every single governor of the state has been measured by the Akande standard.
