IF you're trying to find a rat, don't burn the whole house down. By recalling the Philippine Sports Commission's (PSC) budget, you're actually ruining every athlete's Christmas season. Juico, Ej Obiena, Patafa, have nothing to gain but super stress and more headaches if this is not resolved very soon. What could have been an internal NSA brouhaha has now involved many unnecessary parties, including the POC and the PSC. Now, the ball rests on both the PSC and POC Ethics Committee.Let's pray and wish them luck.

Worried passengers urged the MTR to install platform doors at light rail stations, but railway unionists said this could be difficult because of the design of stations. Passengers on the light rail yesterday said they were extra alert when waiting for the train. "If I stand beyond the yellow line, it is easy to be bumped by others and fall [from the platform] to the rail track. Tsui was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital in a conscious state, with scratched hands and an injured neck. "I never would have thought he would push a person to a rail track," the neighbor said.

LONDON/AMSTERDAM – The Omicron coronavirus variant spread around the world on Sunday, with new cases found in the Netherlands, Denmark and Australia even as more countries imposed travel restriction to try to seal themselves off. ADVERTISEMENT“Preliminary data suggests that there are increasing rates of hospitalization in South Africa, but this may be due to increasing overall numbers of people becoming infected, rather than a result of specific infection,” WHO said. In its statement, the WHO said it was working with technical experts to understand the potential impact of the variant on existing countermeasures against COVID-19, including vaccines. Dutch health authorities said 13 cases of the variant were found among people on two flights that arrived in Amsterdam from South Africa on Friday. ADVERTISEMENTMany countries have imposed travel bans or curbs on southern Africa to try to stem the spread.

(Reuters)The Philippines has temporarily suspended a decision to allow fully vaccinated tourists entry in a bid to prevent a new, heavily mutated coronavirus variant taking off in the country where most of the population remains unvaccinated. Manila announced plans last week to allow fully vaccinated tourists from most countries to enter from December 1 as it seeks to revive the nation's battered economy. "The IATF deemed it necessary to suspend the entry of foreign tourists, given worldwide concerns over the Omicron variant," Bureau of Immigration commissioner Jaime Morente said Monday, using the acronym for the task force. Around one-third of the country's 110 million people are fully vaccinated. The Philippines has recorded more than 2.8 million infections since the start of the pandemic, including over 48,000 deaths.

“With the Omicron variant now detected in several regions of the world, putting in place travel bans that target Africa attacks global solidarity,” said WHO regional director general Matshidiso Moeti. “Travel restrictions may play a role in slightly reducing the spread of COVID-19 but place a heavy burden on lives and livelihoods,” the WHO said in a statement. “If restrictions are implemented, they should not be unnecessarily invasive or intrusive, and should be scientifically based,” the UN body said. A long list of countries have already imposed travel restrictions on southern Africa, including key travel hub Qatar, the United States, Britain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the Netherlands. Robert Lewandowski CONTRIBUTED PHOTOPARIS: Robert Lewandowski threatens to deny Lionel Messi a record-extending seventh Ballon d'Or title as the prestigious awards ceremony returns on Monday (Tuesday in Manila) after it was cancelled last year because of the pandemic. The Bayern Munich and Poland striker pilfered a Bundesliga record 41 goals in just 29 games last season to eclipse the long-standing mark set by the late Gerd Mueller. Lewandowski, 33, scooped FIFA's prize for best male player of 2020 and has the backing of both coach Julian Nagelsmann and Bayern team-mate Thomas Mueller after a prolific start to the new campaign. Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have combined to win 11 of the past 12 editions of the Ballon d'Or, the lone exception in 2018 when Luka Modric helped Real Madrid to another Champions League triumph and inspired Croatia to the World Cup final. "Robert deserves to win it, because in my view he has been more unbelievably consistent than any other player," Nagelsmann said last month in an interview with Munich newspaper Abendzeitung.
