Four years ago, Fox News precipitated an internal crisis with a bold election night call that President Joe Biden would beat Donald Trump in the crucial state of Arizona. Fox's Arizona call in 2020 infuriated Trump and many of the network's viewers. The AP called the election for Trump at 5:34 a.m. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and the AP all made their calls within a few moments of each other. Fox averaged 9.7 million viewers for its coverage in the prime-time hours, well above second-place ABC News, which had 5.7 million. Newsmax, Fox's chief rival for conservative viewers, had 947,000 viewers and NewsNation had 237,000, Nielsen said.

It’s archaic and should be eliminated. The popular vote should determine the winner. It should be adjusted to make the votes proportional, rather than winner-take-all. The Electoral College gives voice to smaller, less populous states. It’s hard to say without an in-depth study of the potential consequences.

During an appearance on “Nightcap,” Griffey recalled some words of wisdom his father shared with him during their time playing alongside each other. There’s been a lot of discussion on social media today among professors about what they should say to their students about the election. This is what I said, more or less, to the 40 or so students in my contemporary moral problems course:We had a big election last night. But if you’re going to rely on your own judgment, you should make sure your judgment is worth relying on—that it’s good judgment. In this course, and in many of your other courses, the work you’re doing contributes to your judgment becoming more reliable. Certainly there will be differing views over what kinds of things to say, or whether to mention the election at all.

Striking New York Times tech workers have created a “Guild Builds” page dedicated to strike-themed games you can play, including a spin on Wordle, a word search, and the custom Connections I reported on earlier today. As part of its strike announcement on Monday, the New York Times Tech Guild requested that people don’t cross the digital picket line to play the NYT’s daily puzzle games. This collection of five other games offers an alternative if you want to support the striking workers but also do some brain teasers. Sheehan also says that guild members created all of the games but Strikle, which was made by an external supporter. The New York Times didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment.

America Faces Crucial Divide After 2024 Election Trump's return marks complex racial dynamics and future challenges for DemocratsWith the dust settling from the highly contentious 2024 U.S. presidential election, the major players, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, seem to symbolize two distinct visions for America’s future. Asian American voters also showed diminished support, dropping from 61% to 56%. Such shifts demonstrate the challenge any Democratic candidate faces as they seek to unify diverse groups against a popular Republican opponent. Moving forward, it calls for unity and dialogue between both sides, diverging from the extreme tribalism lately echoed during election cycles. Whether aspiring to bridge divides or invoking past fears, one thing is certain: the 2024 election served as both judgment and call to action.

The New York Times has introduced the next title coming to its Games catalog following Wordle's continued success -- and it's all about math. In Digits, players are presented with a target number that they need to match. Players will get a five-star rating if they match the target number exactly, a three-star rating if they get within 10 of the target, and a one-star rating if they can get within 25 of the target number. So play Digits while you can, as The New York Times may move on from the project if it doesn't get the response it is hoping for. Digits' beta is available to play for free now on The New York Times Games' website
