Vice President Kamala Harris has released a series of housing proposals and has consistently mentioned housing on the campaign trail, in advertisements and in the debate with former President Donald Trump. TrumpTrump, a real estate developer, has fewer specifics than his opponent in addressing housing affordability. Trump’s campaign has said the reduction in the population would lessen demand for housing and therefore lower costs. Harris and Trump share one idea for housing affordability, though they’re both light on details: making more federally owned land available for housing development. Trump’s campaign said that housing affordability worsened during Biden and Harris’ time in office and that the former president would improve the situation.

Pakistan's internet has slowed to a crawl for over two months, sparking accusations of government interference aimed at suppressing protests by supporters of opposition leader Imran Khan. "The internet is working absolutely fine," claimed Information Minister Attaullah Tarar last month, dismissing concerns. Meanwhile, freelancers, ride-hailing drivers, and others who depend on mobile apps for gig work say the impact is crippling. One gig worker, Mohammad Arif, said when he tries to accept rides, his screen freezes. In a nation where only 4 million people have WiFi, compared to 140 million relying on mobile internet, the consequences are widespread.

Health care — and who would handle it best — has continued to be contested turf in the final weeks of the presidential campaign. Polls show that Americans have ranked health care costs high on the agenda for national leaders. The Biden administration withdrew approval for work requirements in state Medicaid programs and encouraged states to expand coverage. During her vice presidency, the Biden administration rolled out federal regulations that provide broad protection against discrimination based on gender identity by federally funded health care entities. The Biden administration also launched a new office at the White House focused on pandemic preparedness and response.

Trump has called for rapid and historic deportations of millions of immigrants who are in the country illegally. And she has pledged to sign a bipartisan border bill negotiated this year that includes hundreds of millions of dollars to continue construction. She has said as far back as 2017 that people who try to come into the country illegally are not criminals. But as the Biden administration encountered record arrivals at the border, she shifted significantly. It contains nothing for the so-called Dreamers who were brought to the country illegally when they were minors.

Former President Donald Trump is leading by six points in Arizona, while Vice President Kamala Harris leads by four points in Pennsylvania, according to new polls from the New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer and Siena College. Trump's strength in Arizona has been buoyed by voters' concerns about the economy, while Harris has maintained an edge in Pennsylvania largely due to her stance on abortion. Harris' lead in Pennsylvania is within the margin of error, but mirrors a consistent small lead in polling for months. Trump has an 11-point lead over Harris in Pennsylvania on the economy, which grew from a 4-point lead in the Times' September poll. Harris, Trump and outside groups have spent around $350 million in television ads in the state and are frequently visiting for campaign stops.

The platform has at various points shut down pages belonging to the League of Women Voters of Lawrence-Douglas County and Kansas Reflector. And while youth voting advocacy matters a great deal, Kansas Reflector reporters have covered that story. Facebook didn’t just suppress the story but actually took it down, leaving them without that opportunity. Clay Wirestone is Kansas Reflector opinion editor. Through its opinion section, Kansas Reflector works to amplify the voices of people who are affected by public policies or excluded from public debate.

Your guide to the presidential candidates’ views on abortionAbortion rights, always a polarizing issue in American politics, became an electoral tinderbox in 2022 after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision to create a federal right to abortion access. “In more than 20 states, Trump Abortion Bans are preventing doctors from providing basic medical care. A federal abortion banIn the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, questions immediately arose about whether Congress would enact legislation protecting abortion access across the nation or a federal measure prohibiting such rights. The first White House official to visit an abortion clinic, Harris has called Trump’s actions on abortion “unconscionable.”“It’s insulting to the women of America,” Harris said. Harris has lashed out at Trump for appointing the justices who supported overturning federal protection for abortion rights.

Altered State Distillery, 1535 W. Eighth St., which opened in 2019, has taken another big step up. The distiller, which was mentioned in Forbes magazine earlier this year, just added a chef and full restaurant menu to its list of assets. Bobby Grazulewicz, 43, a trained executive chef with experience at restaurants in Niagara Falls, Jamestown, Charlotte, North Carolina, and others, has taken over and remade the Altered State kitchen. "Everything we have, even if it's not vegan or gluten-free, can easily be made that way," he said. No BYOFAltered State allowed people to bring their own food before the new kitchen opened because they had a limited menu, but those days are over.

To describe this mathematically, our model allows for m changepoints during the data record t ∈ {1, …, N}, which occur at the times τ 1 , …, τ m , where the ordering 0 = τ 0 < τ 1 < τ 2 < ⋯ < τ m < N = τ m+1 is imposed. This likelihood is denoted by L(m: τ 1 , …, τ m ). The penalty C(m; τ 1 , …, τ m ) is a charge for having m changepoints at the times τ 1 , …, τ m in a model. In short, a 40% increase in the 2013–2040 warming rate relative to the 1970–2012 rate will be needed to declare a significant warming surge by 2040. Overall, one sees that either significantly increased warming or many more years of observations will be required before declaring any warming surge with a reasonable degree of confidence.
