Calif. Investigators Nab Suspected Serial Killer in Brutal 1977 Killings
Source Los Angeles TimesLOS ANGELES — Almost 50 years after three women were strangled to death in Ventura County, cold case investigators said Thursday that they'd found the suspected serial killer who committed these murders. "We believe there may be additional victims, both locally and in other states," Ventura County Dist. Back in 1977, detectives working these cases did notice there were patterns. The county's cold case unit was reexamining the 1977 killings and had started uploading evidence to a massive DNA database used by homicide detectives across the nation. Alexander appeared in Ventura County Superior Court on Thursday morning and will face arraignment later this month.

Maduro says he will block X in Venezuela for 10 days, after spat with Musk over contested election
(CNN) — Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has said he’s taking steps to ban the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, in the country for 10 days, after a public dispute with its owner Elon Musk over the contested election that Maduro claimed to have won. Maduro’s announcement comes after he and Musk publicly exchanged criticism over a Venezuelan election that Maduro claimed to win, but which the United States and other Western countries say he lost. Musk has said on X that “Maduro is not a good guy” and accused him of “major election fraud.” Maduro in return has accused Musk of conspiring against his country. The US said last week “it is clear” that Maduro lost the popular vote in Venezuela’s election, as a key opposition leader said she was in hiding in fear for her life. Protests broke out across Venezuela after the country’s electoral body, which is stacked with regime allies, announced Maduro as the winner with 51% of the votes.

Like the book, the movie flashes back-and-forth between Lily in high school (Isabela Ferrer) and Lily in present day. In that first rooftop scene in the book, Lily reveals that her dad physically abused her mom. AdvertisementUnlike the book — which makes Ryle’s abuse clear from the beginning — the movie makes the lines Ryle crosses intentionally blurry. However, while all of these interpretations are possible, I don’t think that the movie makes abuse sexy or exciting.

Jim Obergefell, the lead plaintiff in the 2015 Supreme Court case that won same-sex couples the right to marry nationally, said it’s obvious that LGBTQ+ rights — including the right to marry — are under threat.
