Ethiopia shops for PR firm to popularize Fayda digital ID, speed adoption
The National Identity Program of Ethiopia (NIDP) has published an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the recruitment of a public relations firm that will champion a comprehensive national communication strategy aimed at fast-tracking the attainment of a 90 million digital ID enrollment target. The PR firm will assist the Ethiopian government in clearing barriers hindering full acceptance of the digital ID and communicate with citizens attempting to understand the social risks involved in the deployment of the program. The public relations campaign will include half a dozen television advertisements and six more radio ads, in multiple languages. Since its launch in 2021, NIDP has been expanding avenues for collaboration on the use of the Fayda ID which the country has made the principal proof of ID for access to important government an private sector services. Polish ultranationalist MP extinguishes Hanukkah candle
The Speaker of the parliament Szymon Holownia denounced the incident carried out by Grzegorz Braun and said there would be no tolerance for antisemitic and xenophobic behaviour in the Sejm, the Polish parliament. He then took to the podium in the chamber where he described the Hanukkah as "satanic" and said he was restoring "normality". Asked just after the incident if he was ashamed, Braun replied: "Those who take part in acts of Satanic worship should be ashamed." Vatican eases rules on ashes of the dead
In previous guidance from 2016, the Vatican said the ashes must be kept in "sacred places" and therefore neither at home, divided among family members nor scattered to the wind. It warned that a Christian funeral could be denied to those who request that they be scattered. This would be on condition that anti-Christian practices such as pantheism or naturalism are "ruled out" and that the remaining part of the ashes are kept in a sacred place, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith said. Tuesday's statement, signed by the Vatican's doctrinal chief Argentine Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernandez and approved by Pope Francis, was a response to questions posed by the head of the Italian Catholic Church, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi. It also said the ashes of the dead may be mixed in a common urn, rather than kept separately, as long as the identity of each deceased is marked "so as not to lose the memory of their names".

Pakistan militants kill at least 23 at police station
The police station was being used by the Pakistani Army as a base camp. Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the attack and expressed grief over the deaths, a statement from his office said. Several people were wounded and in critical condition, said Aizaz Mehmood, an official of the state-run rescue service. Ethiopia Peace Minister Critical of PM Abiy Held for Suspected Coup Plot
NAIROBI (Reuters) -Ethiopia's state minister of peace has been fired and arrested on accusations he conspired with rebel groups to overthrow the government, state media reported on Tuesday. Last week Taye blamed the government for the failure of a second round of peace talks between Ethiopia and the rebel group Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), which took place in Tanzania last month. Taye was not available for comment and the family had not yet engaged a lawyer, his wife said. After he was sacked, Taye lashed out at Abiy calling the prime minister "a barbarian" who plays with "human blood". The conflict in Oromiya in recent years has killed hundreds of people and displaced tens of thousands in Ethiopia's most populous region.
